Just made the dumbest mistake I have made to date working on my ski today. Forgot to put the tapered end on my flywheel puller and pushed about 3/8" of threads out of the nose of my crank. I feel like a complete idiot and may have ruined a perfectly good crank...just wanted to share it with somebody.

Does anybody know if the threads on the crank go all the way to the end or is there a section that is unthreaded?

Threads

The threads are plenty deep(if you have an OEM crank). I have seen this before. Just chase the threads, clean the threads and bolt with Acetone. Use red loc-tite and torque to the correct specs. I personally torque to 75 foot lbs.
Good luck,
Randy

helicoil is a dumb idea.

Just try to tap it put it together. If it fails ,you can most certainly go up one size with a new bolt. Much cheeper than a new crank.

Just looked in the end and the threads start pretty deep in there (looked like deaper than how far I think it went in). Pulled one of my core cranks out of the bin and looked at that and sure enough the threads start about 1/2" in. Looks like my brain started working just in time and I stopped about 1/8" before I hit the threads...the crank is good. Huge relief!
