Is it the salt water or what? Seems like the moment a guy completes his first set of bottom turns and top turns the hating creeps in.... just saying....
Relax bro...you don't know these guys. They are OLD SCHOOLERS and know their . Most have been riding 12-20 years and morphed surfing into standups back when the first waves were being riddin on a standup. Show a lil respect. Most of these guys started this stuff. Yes, some of it comes across harsh on the internet.....but let it go. They are trying to keep surfriding alive....and they should.
Most of the Old Legends stopped posting on here years ago...but still ride ALL the time. I couldn't believe I ran into Randy Laine on my last Oside trip going for a solo rip in the surf at 7am. Cool cool guy.
Anyways, hit up these guys and go ride with them if your ever in SoCal...I did. I promise, you'll have a blast and never want to leave.
do you understand the difference of surfriding and riding in the surf?
and the "haters" you are reffering to on zacks post were his close friends heckling him.
dj is right by saying that its mostly the old timers (who i respect and envy) who are giving the young guns poop for riding around in circles with your feet stuck in your footholds waiting for the next wave. surfriding is similar to surfing in that its more of a smooth gracefull riding style that requires ALOT of skill and YEARS of practice, anyone can go go out and straight huck it...
So what's wrong with a little progression? You think anybody wants to watch surf riding at the x games? Freestyle could take our sport to the next level.... not saying we'll ever be main stream but we gotta progress right? Its awesome that the old timers are great riders and they brought us to where we are today... But that shouldn't be a free ticket to HATE!
this is 1990 btw...
watkins putting that 550 on rail dosnt really get any better...
flatwater freestyle has created this image that you need to spend all this money on special equpment to do cool stuff but in reality all you need is to ride the surf and grow some balls. stock SN is more then sufficent in the surf.
just because you can do a flip off a wave doesnt mean you can surfride at all. that what your so called "haters" are trying to get across. surfriding takes time and practice and dedication to master. curtis (ridthelip) or andrew (wydeopen) are some of the best surf riders ever. all they do is surf the wave just like they are on a surfboard. there whole point is if you go out in the surf your first time and huck a flip, good for you but you are not a surf rider. and you dont need aftermarket hulls and big motors to surfride.
If you have the money why not go aftermarket...would you rather drive down the road in an 85 Toyota Trecel or a 68 camero with a twin turbo 572?
have you ever seen an aftermarket hull turn like that 550 in the vid i posted??
...didnt think so
haha actually a tercel prob handles the twisties better than a camaro so it was prob a good comparison..
goes good in a strait line but thats about it...
