Freestyle Helmets?

I saw a lot of guys using down hill mountain bike helmets at the rides I went to this summer. I see the Giro helmet that seems to be specific for water. How do the mountain bike helmets hold up to getting wet inside? I found a bunch of them that look pretty good and range from 79.00 to 300.00. Any suggestions? I have an old mx helmet for when I go trying stuff that might hurt me but it gets heavy once it's wet. I want something better for next season. I want to hear what you guys have to say.

bell bellistic helmet. Using it in avatar. $60 shipped. Lightweight. Perfect. Any downhill bike helmet would do you good I'd guess. Mine is made of that styrofoam bike helmet stuff, but has nice thick padding. Feels like a mix between a Bike and motorcycle helmet.

I have the giro Downhill helmet. IT is light and doesn't hold water really. If you got the money to blow why not get carbon fiber and have it feather light.

I use my old bmx racing helmet, its the troy lee designs d2 carbon and its super light and works great, doesnt get heavy when wet and Ive had it over 10 years. I think it retails in the $300 to $350 range, but theres a very similar looking helmet made by T.H.E that is a bit cheaper

I got the Carbon Giro. I got a good deal on it because it was close out (old model). The carbon ones aren't much lighter, only 100 grams Giro claims. BUTTTT, they looks cool ;)

In response to the quality, they look cool and protect you but i've defiantly had helmets that I feel are stronger. I know a couple people who have broken/cracked theirs.

I have the giro mountain bike helmet, does not hold water and was reasonably priced at less than $100 from blowsion

my only complaint is that the rivets that hold the chin straps on rusted very quickly in salt water. I am going to drill them out and replace with SS hardware next week.

I use a Blowsion Giro helmet. It cost like $130 and seems fine to me. I use to take my old Moto helmets and after one ride with the Giro my neck was thanking me.

I bought a couple online and returned them until I found the 661 that I have now. It was a older model CF helmet, I think I paid $150 for it. Not sure I notice the weight savings, but as mentioned before, they look friggen sweet!

Giro Remedy is a good value if you want more function than style.

The geckos look cool! I just don't like there is no vent near your mouth and the helmet is pretty close to your face isn't it?

Great helmet, light and don't absorb much water.

There was another helmet that was on the boards a bit ago that has worked pretty awesome and was water specific. Can't remember the friggin name though!! Interchangeable liners for different sized domes and was a very well respected manufacturer as I remember. But the name.... Dammitt!! B3IS has one and loves it. Here they are. Shred Ready helmets.

I have a carbon Giro .... I think I'm going to put a chin strap on it instead of the regular strap. Have you all noticed that if you take a blow to the mouth the helmet slides down and hits you in the nose /mouth. A chin strap would prevent this..... Mark the Shark has the most incredible helmets made by Norbert that uses this method .... to bad you can't get one.

BTW one of my Favs .... at least look at 2:17

I have the shred ready and the Giro. The shred ready is light and works good for the summer. I will be using the giro in the cold water this winter.
