Help my js 550 has recently started to sputter under full throttle and backfire occasionally. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know what i can do to fix it?

is the factory fuel rev limiter hooked up yet?

yes it has the factory rev limiter

There is a good chance that that is causing your problem, I would eliminate that. Im sure there are some posts on here on what to do

you need to just eliminate all the line and everything in the path.the back and forth hose to the on/res plug the other holes and just run a direct fuel line,filtered of course and a return.pretty easy this happens to everyone

Ok, I bypassed the on/res switch and went directly from the tank to the carb and I also took out the rev limiter and plugged the hole in the side of the carb. Ski still runs terrible.. seems like its impossible to
get the carb tuned. I think the carb is done for. Anything im missing or should i fork out a few $ and get a sbn 44

when you remove the rev limiter you have to put a restrictor on the return line. a mig welding tip works i think the correct size is .032.
with that said sounds like an ignition problem. start by checking your spark plug wire and stator ohms.
