Help me total loss

Is there a write up worth reading to help me better understand how to set this total loss up? I've read the instructions and it just doesn't do it for me. I have it all set up on my bench engine, wiring, all mounted on a plate, battery is hooked up, grounds . The timing curve should be already set for my engine. I just need help setting timing and making sure I'm not going to kaboom anything.

Seriously not a big deal. U can do it. Take ur time and go over it looking at all ur parts. Read the wiring diagram and use colored markers If need be to follow the wiring. Setting timing with a timing light and the brain LED is pretty straightforward. I was nervous the first one I set up but after u go through it it's not so bad.

here's something the instructions don't tell you: fasten the green wires, they will otherwise vibrate and break loose near the pick-ups. Also don't use the (bone colored) plastic MSD bushing for the wires, it may shrink later and let water leak into the f/w area. The piece of wire you see top right has a sharpened point to set timing on f/w or degree wheel. The dip switches on the back of the control module are somewhat of a pain to figure out.P1030886.JPG

What part of the instructions explains how to set your manual timing. Your pickup plate position. There is a mark on my pickup plate that the previous owner of the total loss must have made and if I alight the case mark and the plate mark tighten it down. Install flywheel. With the s4 of the switch from plate 3 on the led lights up (Acording to the TDC mark I made and my degree wheel) 1 cylinder at 30 degrees and the other at 28 degrees.

Is this correct for setting my timing mechanically and than I adjust by the switches from there?

i drill the pickup holes one 32nd drill bit bigger
this is so they can move a little more to adjust them to being closer together
retard one pickup while advancing the other one with the extra movement
try to get within 1 degree
static advance about 30* is a good start for pump gas setups

So your saying to get both pickup set to the same timing by drilling the holes so I can slide to adjust. And it's a race gas set up and was told to set to 37 degrees

37 degrees is a crazy high advance! I have NEVER had a motor setup with that much advance and I run a 1105 right now. If the person who told you that isn't knowledgeable enough to walk you through setting the timing then I wouldn't trust it.

yes
by drilling out the holes you can move them just a little bit
37* sounds too high to me
32*-34* max would be more realistic spec's on race gas
list your other settings you have set on your dip switches

I'm double checking with zack on timing and set up just haven't got ahold of him yet. The pics are how it was set when I got it. With how the stator pick up is positioned in the pic my led lights up at

Here is the pick up position I aligned it by the mark the previous owner made. From what I gather about the initial timing set up I am at 7 degrees less than my mechanical timing of 28 and 30 so I'm actually at 21 and 23 as it's set up current

I forgot!
Static timing can be set at 37 but you will need to get the switches set to retard it up to 7 degrees. I shoot for 35. And flip switches to get 32 for my curve. Right now where my plate is set its at 33 so I only had to take off 1 degree. 35 is the highest I hear of people running so I shoot for that. No more.

those msd switch settings are f..k..up
this is what you have set by this pic
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
retard begin speed=6500 (way too high)
led for timing=on (ok to set timing/just turn to off for run)
max speed rev limit=12,250 rpms (wrong)
holeshot rev limit=6750 (dont care-dont hook up wire)
max speed retard=7 degrees (not enough imo/ depends on static timing and rev limiter setting)
max timing= set all on (i like all on)
max/min rev limit +4000 rpm=on (wrong/should be off)
max retard +15= off (i like to run on/depends on rev limit settings and static timing)
elec start= on (ok)
start retard=off (wrong if you run more than 20* static timing/ i run it on)
retard begin rpm + 4000 rpm=on (wrong/ run it off)
don't run this as set now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you need to get with your engine builder and use his spec's
or
learn what this all means
did i mention that with these settings it would be
very hard to start (if you set to 37*)
you would have no retard at all=straight 37* timing all the way to the revlimiter at 12,250 rpms
