HELP! More MSD Analog woes . . .

I've already posted this sort of thread before, but the advice I got dosen't seem to apply.

I've tried changing the static timing, switched out all the modules, and turned up the idle.

Here's what happens: I start the ski and it runs really well until it gets a good jolt (barrel roll attempt or jump), then it's like something breaks free or somebody flips a switch and the motor just want's to run backwards. If I take it to shore and let it sit for a bit it will run again good for a while, then boom back to the same old $#!+. I've tried several different static timings and the results are always exactly the same. I get 15 to 30 minutes of good running time until the invisible switch is flipped. Then it gets progressively worse. Until it will only start in reverse.

This is on a 5mm lamey flattop BB stroker.

I've got another brain and I think I'm going to set up a completely different electronics and swap it out and see what happens.

Any more ideas?

It kinda makes me wonder if something is going on in the ignition module. Like it's no longer retarding at all, and just firing at the static point. However, I'm confused as to why it corrects itself after a little while...

Definitly try the other ignition module.

Well I put together another TL set-up and installed it on my ski. I had to rotate the pickup plate to get the same static timing as I had before?????

On my old one I put all the guts in a box and mounted the brain outside (Like Parrdaddy's.)

On this one I just mounted everything to a plate that I had from someone else. I used a stock coil/plug wires. (JSS on the last one) I used a chevy solenoid (stock on old one)

Fired it and verified the timing with a timing light.

I turned the pickup plate counter clock-wise about a centimeter!?!?

I must have had something wired wrong on the solenoid because the ski kept wanting to start after I killed the motor.

That's whats funny. I didn't change the pick-up plate. I just rotated it. I've got another one of those also. If I have the same problem as before I'll change that out too.

The analog pickup amplifier stage may have been messed up, turning on too early.
Chalk it up to bad brain.

2005 World Finals in Havasu, Sport Open Main event. I am holding for a balster. We pick it up fire it up clear it out get the nod. Put it in the water and it starts pulling us backwards hahaha. We start laughing and make jokes about how we're going to spin him around and let him take off in reverse. These guys next to us were from New Zealand flew all the way around the globe to race the sport race are way uber serious were looking at us like we were idiots. Luckily we called for a 2 min hold fire it up again and it was going the right way again. Those old MSD units are a little tempramental sometimes.

Well, I can understand if it starts in reverse every now and then, but the issue is that when it does run forward it works great for a while then, BAM it has issues. I probably should get an advent just to avoid all these headaches, but I'm kinda stubborn (and cheap, or frugal if you want to be PC)
