Hi I’m working on a CATS system for my SX 650, I have so far

Alloy lever
SXR Skat Trim Cable.
X2 Trim Nozzle
Bracket to hold cable - trim end.
Back end of ski trimmed out ready.

The problem I have is the distance between the flange and the steering ball, it is different by 20mm, the only adjustment I can see on the steering cable is the brass connector on the end , and I’m not sure this will give me 20mm as required , below is a s..t drawing to try and explain the problem, as you can see the steering ball in B is further away than it is in A

Any help would be good

i'm workin on the same thing right now. lol what you have to do is get a piece of alum. rod (or anything that won't rust pretty much) and drill / tap one side to thread int the end of the cable and on the other side you will have to make smaller via lathe, then put a die on it so the brass fitting will thread on to it.

this guy made one. you can probly send him a pm and he will help you out. he talks about it in the link on post #42

Right i see , not sure i like that, it looks like a week link, I work with stainless steel and laser cutting , so i think i may go for an extention on the arm to take the 20mm up, i will look at this this week , if you like it and require one i can cut two and post one over.

Go to ace hardware and get a threaded aluminum spacer like this one
Keystone-1893.jpg

and a threaded bolt as long as you need (because you can't find threaded stainless rod) and cut the head off of the bolt. You have the adapter that you need for under $.50

I tried going to every hardware store I could find and no one carries metric couplers. Mcmaster Carr doesn't even carry them.

z00m: Aluminum is going to be your best choice. Just grab a rod from Lowes and use that. I'm using aluminum now and it's held up fine. I started out with steel but it is incredibly hard and I destroyed my drill bit and tap trying to make it work. The aluminum is not a weak link, I assure you. The brass connector is far weaker than aluminum.

You know.... come to think of it I might have bought one close to the right size and tapped it. Aluminum is super easy to tap so I don't remember if I did or not.

You could build one of these if you can't find or build a spacer.

Pro-Tec sells a steering cable extender part number A11-9400-4 for $7.95 and McMaster has a bunch of stainless metric thread extenders in numerous configurations. :shhh:

There was a guy on here that made some stainless adapters. It was a guy in NJ with the name Vitkaly but it wasn't Vitoaly with the dog in his avatar. I believe he has an SXi Pro.

Anyway, really anything will work. Try searching for "stand offs" they are like the coupler but with a threaded male end on one side, threaded female on the other.

I agree that the brass will break... I have broken my share over teh years. I was just thankful that I had spares because they are big $$$ at the stealership!
