650/X-2 Help!! Short on time.. Is this 650 worth $1000???

[SUB]Hey guys im sorry for such a short notice but this ski just fell into my lap a few hours ago.
I havent seen it personally yet but the guy "says" it runs awesome.
From what I got out of the quick conversation, he said the ski is 1990 sx650 with a new paint job and turf, Aftermarket handlebar and throttle(so maybe a quick steer as well??)
has an aftermarket pipe(not sure what kind yet)aftermarket ride plate, impeller and air filter(so maybe a different carb and he just doesnt know?)
and thats all he knew off the top of his head...

Im pretty new to the stand up world. I have an 88 js 550 that i love to play around on. Its not a very powerful ski, it has low compression and hardly any mods.
From the looks of things, getting my old ski to run like a powerful 650 would cost almost as much as just buying this one.

Please help! any comments about keeping my ski or buying the 650 will be greatly appreciated! [/SUB]
Listed at $1800, talked him down to $1000[SUB]
Pictures of the 650 should be below. No pics of the engine :(

meh, if you want to get serious in the sport you can find a SN 650SJ or a 750sx for a few more bucks. 650sx is quite possible the worse ski out there.

Great price if the motor is as good condition as the outside. it's only worth what the motor is worth. If the motor is spotless with good compression and runs strong, then get it. If the motor is rough and there's doubt, well, just buy something reliable.

The 650sx is not the best ski, but it is a fun ski, it's a great place to start and it's affordable. You could buy a superjet for only a little more money, but I've never seen any superjets that price that are that clean. Clean and reliable > High performance + broken.
