Surfriding Help with new Rickter Build

Been out of the game for a little bit, used to throw a superjet around the waves in Pismo, Morro Bay, and Cayucos about 7 years ago. Had to sell it prior to having kids to make way for less and less free time. Now that kiddos are 2 and 4 and showing interested in motorsports and ocean hobbies I'm getting back into it. Was going to just ease my way back in by finding a good 3k ski and slowly building it much like I did the first time. I quickly found it difficult to find a good stock ski that wasn't 18 plus years old old and had corrosion or had an unknown life, not a lot of round nose freshwater only boats out there. I decided to put more money into it than I first thought. Then Taylor at TCFreeride, after all his compelling arguments, has finally convinced me to invest in a Rickter. He had one perfect for me and I pick the hull up tomorrow. Now that most of my money is locked up in the hull I have to think hard about how to finish it off, there's where Im looking for help. Its a 2016 Rickter Edge FR with all the lightweight RRP handlepole furniture and accessories. has a 144 pump with trim and the rest will need to be found. My current budget to finish the ski is about 5K over the next 2 months. My options are 1.)find a 3k stock 96ish superjet and swap all the guts then sell the hull 2.) purchase a socal guys rickter guts that he has pulled, its a 760 with Blowsion head, dual 38s, lightweight flywheel but I'm not super stoked on a 760 blaster 2 engine or 3.) find a solid aftermarket engine maybe a jetmaniac 718 for a decent price and then piece together ebox, waterbox, gas tank, midshaft, carbs, and pipe. I'm primarily an ocean rider and typically like to ride/surf big waves. No major interest in huge flips or barrel rolls but I do like to work on wave re-entries and I'm sure with right setup I will get more interested in flips. Any advice from anyone who has done this build before would be greatly appreciated. Id like to find a way to best spend my 5k and still have an amazing ski with resell value and reliability.

Is it a stock 760? or did they deck cases to change the port timing? HPE does some awesome work on the those motors with his stroker crank, for very competitive price.

From what i can tell from his description its a blaster 2 engine with brand new pistons , with Blowsion head , domes and a mod b pipe and a light weight flywheel. It looks clean. But ive been told a 701 with a head will smash a 760 when it comes to bottom end getup.

Times have changed alot since you left lol. Personally im running a decked 760 to lower the cylinders. Alot of guys are picking up 64x's now and running a 4-5 mil stroker crank with a cylinder baseplate to change port timing. Maybe @holeshot or @Nuklear6 can chime in about them. Cheap big bore power for sure.

The guy is willing to sell the engine, mid shaft and couplers, blowsion tank, ebox, b pipe, exhaust, 38mm carbs, waterbox for 3250. But id imagine i could get him down from exactly what hes asking. How much does the deck work cost yoi think?. The setup looks clean

You can either have the cylinders decked by pulling the sleeves and milling the bottom of the cylinders 1.5mil, or have the cases decked by separating the cases and milling the top of the case down. It cost between $50-100 for just the deck, but youll need to have your domes milled to account for the extra piston travel. And while you have the cylinders off Id suggest doing some port work while everythings apart. Or you could do the super cheap route and run no cylinder base gasket (you'll still need the domes cut tho).
The thing with Holeshot Is you need a new crank, If you can afford his whole $895 kit I say go for it.

That motor setup looks clean...if it's still in the ski ask to try it.

With 5 grand you should be able to finish off the ski no problem.

I'd just keep it simple and get all the necessities. Stick with just a 701, head, pipe, msd, etc.
