Custom/Hybrid home built hull???

ok guys,

this might sound a bit crazy but hear me out. im entertaining the idea of creating my own hull and just looking for general info. for example does anyone know what to make a hull mold out of? or how thick is the fiberglass on a stock hull? or weather i need to vacuum bag a project of this magnitude? really the only thing i have figured out is what i need for materials. as far as everything else im open to ideas or suggestions to make the process easier and what not.

If you have the time, money and resources then I say go for it. Don't let fear and common sense stop you, especially if you already do glass work or plan to work with it as a career.

Judging by your initial questions I would suggest starting with a RN superjet or something of the sorts and modifying it to incorporate your ideas and modifications. As Jr Freestyle said even using a hull as a basis to go off up and making changes can take hundreds of hours for an experienced composite guru. Developing a hull from scratch can be done with the right equipment etc, but most people do not have the space and this equipment at their disposal. Ask yourself this question, would you rather ride than build? A quick Mod to your RN over the winter is more than enough work for 90% of the people on this site.

OK thanks guys im just looking into potential business opportunity thats all. already have a built superjet RN. just thought with kawasaki pulling the plug yamaha would soon follow and then we would be left with no entry level way to get into the stand up scene and thus killing the sport !!

2nd that, i have 9+ months into my HBC hull..now on 2nd mold making refined changes after water testing from the first. So if you
were paying yourself $35.00 min for your time and materials thats 36tho +. If you do a splash or mild changes your looking at way less time
and testing. Also plan on getting a high $ motor to show off and market your hull aswell as a pro rider to make it look good, to make true sales.

Very talented people have been in and out of the boat building business since the beginning. Making a boat and making a living building boats are two very different things.

Agreed , it can be challenge to make money in any given industry . Find a notch ! Noah had a great design . He could have sold tons of boats maybe even started a cruse line ,but he was only in Business for 40 days and nights ........ got to watch market trends for sure.

I must say there are many people that seem to make a living doing what they enjoy in the Boat / ski industry . They may not be getting rich , but they don't seem Miserable in their Vocation ......... Find a notch and try .

I'm glad no one told Art , Berky , Thrust , WCF , EME , Rickter , Pat and Chucky and WDK ( people want to pay money for his stuff ... he just can't get it together ) , etc that they could not be profitable . I know for some it's supplemental , but they would not do it if it was not profitable monetarily or other wise. My 2 cents
