nice and cheap. Let us know how long the steel lasts in salt water. Very cheap compared to the 4-500 dollar alternatives.

oh... freshwater it should last a lot longer. it will still rust out on ya eventually anyhow, but at that price who cares.

Nice job!

NiCE!!! Had this same exact idea since i have some spare quad wheels/tires. Can you take some closer pics of how you made the axle areas? How easy is it to push in the sand by yourself?

Here's one i bulit last week, scored an old aquacart (i think) from a friend, cut it up and reconfigured it, added some pvc rails, atv wheels/tires i had laying around, winch post quick releases and then it hooks to the tailgate on my truck and doubles as a loading ramp for my 2 ski pickup bed rack(that doesnt exist just yet, just a pile of tubes so far..lol) complete cart also breaks down with quick release pins and the axle/wheel assy. stores into my trailer hitch for transport.IMG00517-20111201-2043.jpgIMG00516-20111201-2042.jpgIMG00495-20111129-1914.jpg

thanks for all the replys the hard part about using atv wheels is i had to make my own hub i used a piece of pvc as a bearing just greased the hec out of it and it rolls fine idt its heavy its just thin wall tubing and prebent 90s from home depot. to make the huds i used flat stock with a pipe center and 5/8 round stock for my axle with cotter pins to hold it togetherdolly axle.jpgdolly axle2.jpg

for people wanting to use steel, look into getting it zinc coated. its not much more than paint/powder coat and is much more salt/corrosion resistant. also home depot now carries lawn wheels with tires for $40 new that use 5/8" axle.
this cart shows there size 16" x 6.5" They also carry 19" for $50...but these work more than good enough even in powder sand.
