Hood failures

I've heard a lot people talking about possible hood failures but never seen one or read on how they fail. Can anyone fill me in on how or where they fail. Even as an engineer, I'm having a hard time visualizing how one of these things could fail when it's mounted on the hull.

Guess that answers my other question on why hood straps are needed...

So it's not really the hood itself breaking in most cases. It's more of the mounts failing?

The hood won't fail if you ride like Yamaha intended. That said, I bvelieve no one on this site rides like that.
The hood is fiberglass like the rest of the ski, land on the side from a roll and the hull can fail as well.
Drop 300lb of anything in the water form 10 feet in the air and see what happens. Something has to give.

The hood also will flex and just loosen itself off the lock and brackets without breaking anything if you land on your side just the right way. You end up scrambling around in the break and end up leaving the hood so you dont take in water.

I'm practacing the barrell roll but i keep landing on my side.

Just stop. Now you guys got me all worried that my hood will fail at daytona. It is just an old sn...but the hood was modded and is very light. I went most of the summer without hood hooks, just used the straps. However i managed to crack a piece off the edge on the intake side.

I only yesterday put some sturdy blowsion hooks on, replaced that sn bracket to a UMI rn style. Only problem now is that my bracket area looks like swiss cheese. Something has got to give, i will take an extra stock hood to the ride and hope a buddy will bring/finish a modded one.

Carnage here i come. I just hope i make it to the weekend since i'll be there tuesday to start rippin.
