How clogged is my carb filter?

After cleaning, blow through to make sure holes aren't gummed up. Had a similar problem last month, had to change filter.

I don’t know what ski or carb you have, but on my superjet’s w Mikuni 38 carbs I have always seen a spotless internal filter when doing rebuilds. So yours probably could use replacing. You now need to figure out what is causing the gunk and corrosion. I always use 93 octane fuel with Castor 927 racing oil. Might want to consider dumping your fuel, replacing fuel filter at tank, replacing fuel lines if not relatively new.... and of course cleaning and rebuilding your carbs if not done so already. Hard to tell what caused it, the gas tank is brand new, might have been something stuck in the passages when I scraped the gaskets (I don't have an air compressor at my house). It was rebuilt last month. I have it all back together and cleaned out, and a primer and a tach now so I should be able to better diagnose it if the problem comes up again.

There’s other stuff that goes wrong with the carbs too. On the little kidney looking plate, inspect the clear flap on the one side. It must be flat and sealed. If it’s not, even a hair open, it can make it run wrong. Also when cleaning the carb pull out the adjustment screws. Make sure all the pieces come out. If you blow them out if they are stuck make sure you hold your hand over them bc the pieces will go flying. Screw, spring, washer then o-ring.
Same thing happened to my fx1 the other day. Ran great and then suddenly it would barely come out of the water and died if I hit the throttle. I took apart the carb and just blasted everything with a can of carb cleaner. Runs great. I did find some trash in my screen too.
I highly recommend adding Lucas fuel treatment every few tanks of gas. I've used it for years in old cars and it works miracles on dirty fuel systems. Esp with all the ethanol in the gas now

Turned out to be low compression. Suspected from a leaky fuel filter combined with 87 octane (premium pump was broken). The filter I was using is a knock-off oem piece that lasted 2 rides, and I watched it drip fuel right before I did the compression test. Don't forget to read your Ebay descriptions carefully party people, and make sure it comes in a bag with that crisp Yamaha label! Lots of deceptive listings.
