turn your stator plate counter clockwise.
you can ususally safely go 1/2 way. When looking at it, turn it to the left, 1/2 way between stock, and turned all the way.

Seriously I was recommended 3/16 of a inch to match my head volume and 98 octane gas... by a expert motor builder. 1/2 inch seems a litle much for a stock ski with who knows what gas

not 1/2 inch, 1/2 way from stock setting to wide open advance.....
it is only a mm or 2 at most.
