Other how important is it to have the whole piston?

the ski was still running had 60 compression in this cylinder. the ring was broken and part of the piston mysteriously dissapeared. you think i am ok just replacing the broken ring and putting it back together? or do you think it's essential to have the whole top of the piston?

If it where mine I would disassemble the motor and inspect it, find out what if any damage was caused by the missing piece floating around in there. I would replace the piston/pistons depending on how the cylinder walls look hone or bore them.

Nice avatar, Tim. Who's that handsome fellow towing your sorry azz in?

I've worked for gov't contractors, and the phrase to follow here is: RTF (Run To Failure) :lmao:

If it is a serious question, replace it.

I had a '74 Honda Elsinore MT250 that had CHUNKS of the top of the piston and the top ring missing. The rings were also like a 1/8 inch thick too and it wasn't really "high" performance. Ran great for years till I sold it and got ripped off, never deal with junkies on credit. Besides they destroyed it in a week anyway. Such a sad end for a classy mag case machine like that... Even if it was a hoopty.

some honda's are very tough to kill. i left a 4hp honda outside all summer without a spark plug. it didn't turn over very well and pumped water out the hole. someone brought it in the shop one day, so i found a plug and some ether and fired it up. it sounded funny because they drained the oil on me and just left it. haha. still running and alot quieter with oil in it.
