How much turf??

I have a 04 SJ. How much turf will I need for R.E.V. footholds? How much underpad, and what type should I go with?

Get a full sheet of diamond from hydroturf, some 25mm and maybe 8mm underpad for the footholds. You can slice the 25 if your careful to get a thickness you want.

if you don't mess up you can get by w/ one sheet of turf and 1 sheet of foam. If you want to do the rails as well you will need 2 sheets.

I got half a sheet of the 25mm.
Was enough for the whole job.

Just the tray or did you get enough to do the tops of tray walls (where your elbows go) and footholds too?

HT will cut the padding in half. Half will be way more than enough to do the top rails, tray/holds.

I actually PERFER 8mm padding. The 25 is just over kill to me and really stuffs the footholds too much. If your going really big in the ocean yeah. But for normal riding stick with 8mm

I'd do 2 sheets to be safe. Plus you can never have enough extra turf

You mean fill in the indention on the tops of the gunwhales. Yup. Looks better and is great for dragging upw ith elbows if you need.

2 sheets of b-stock and 1 sheet of 8 mm under pad. Do two layers (total of 16mm) for bottom of tray. Do only 8 mm where the foot holds go. Use the 8 mm on top of tray to save your elbows, looks nicer too!
Should be enough for chin pad if you want to.

I can't seem to get by on one sheet if I do diamonds/grooves side-to-side in the tray and still maximize the length of my rail cuts. Am I doing bad trig or is this to be expected?

i agree w/ jesse. 8mm is easier to work with. if you get 25mm (its actually only 20mm), you have to do a lot of cutting and grinding to get the desired thickness in the footholds, as opposed to glueing 2x8mm pieces together.

One sheet will work just fine and 8mm is enough pad. Wal-Mart has kitchen mats that work great for the pad they are about ½” thick and closed cell foam. I have had them in my ski for 3 years now and they didn’t even wear yet. They are only 7 bucks and one matt will do the job.

I am turfing Katie’s ski right now and we are using two layers of kitchen matt and one layer under the ball of her foot.
