How to identify superjet engines

Like it says, How do you tell from the outside if the ski still has the 701 it came with?

Do the cases and cylinders have numbers on the outside that identify it, that you can see with the motor installed?

A stock 701 head should be marked 61x

The cylinder head on a 1996-2008 sj will be marked 64u and is 701 based, 1994-1995 will be marked 61x and is 701 based and 1994 (some had a 650) and earlier will be marked 6r7 and are 650 based. To distinguish between the 61x and the 62t cases, look at how the intake manifold mounts to the upper case half. On the 61x it will sit on top of the intake tract whereas the 62t will bolt to the side of the upper case half.

760 cylinder heads are marked 64x (though they were never original equipment in the USA.)

Awesome!!! That is what I was wondering.
With so many variations, and soooo many people swapping motors, and parts of motors around, you can never really tell what is going to end up in the ski you are looking to buy. I mean without external visual clues a single carb 650 would look just like a single carb 701???

Thanks a ton.

Actually you can look at the intakes and tell the difference between a 650 and 701 if you know what you are looking for.:bananapowerslide:

Wagon good thinking. I bought a 760 in from a guy off ebay. It was a pieced together motor. When he advertised it as good used motor out of a ski.
