Lol i know i know , i havent seen or heared a thread on how to make a crate for jetski so lets start one , i kinda have an idea but i would like to hear from an expert because im in the process of making one for my ski

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

I have to build a crate soon without any knowledge how but...

Measure length and width of ski.
Create a 2x4 bottom like a pallet so that a forklift can fork your crate from the middle of the wide side.
Plywood bottom that ski sits on. Use 2 eyebolts screwed in so that ski can be firmly attached from front and back. Make sure the eyebolts are quite firm so they will not rip out.
2x4s for frame that is rectangular and obviously slightly bigger than ski.
Wrap a blanket around ski and tape it. So that if anything weird happens, the cheap blanket can protect from damage/scratches.
plywood around the 2x4 frame.

picture isn't too relevant but it's just sort of an example.

Or go get 2 pallets, attach together with 2x4 across the top long ways build a frame get plywood, do it where plywood at base will screw into sides of pallet, put beams in width of inside of crate after ski and paddind is all in, afterwords get some banding material secure to top and bottom of crate all the way around.

problem with pallets is i dont wanna rip them so that they are only 32 inches wide. I just measured my WDK Rok-R and dimensions for crate will be 32INx32INx7FT. I'm about to built crate today so I will draw something up and post here for hopefully any advice.

If you use a 42-44" regular pallet without ripping it, it probably won't be any more expensive...

Uggh I wish. That would add 24 cubic feet and in Hawaii every cubic foot is worth it's dimensions in gold.

The hardest part right now is me planning on how to get palleted jet ski to the shipping yard. Unfortunately everything is harder when living in an apartment. I regret bringing a ski to hawaii because of this difficulty. I will try to take some pics though to share if my build turns out well.

I made this last winter. It might give you some inspiration.

Badass! Thank you, my subframe is similiar. How did you attach the 2x2 to the 2x4 at the bottom? Did you angle screws/nails in? Just FYI, you're the only large size homebuilt crate plans online so it's nice you posted them. Very helpful for me.

I screwed the bottom layer together upside down before the feet were on. The 2x2s on the sides were screwed to the plywood only. A plywood cube is a lot stronger than a 2x2 wood frame so their only job was to hold the plywood corners together.

Gotcha, I'm using "compositeboard?", that poop you could beat the corners to pieces if you got angry enough. Couldn't find plywood for sale on the island that wasn't 1/2" and heavy. I still think it will be good just for me the frame has a tiny bit of importance. I will spraypaint "Fragile: this side up" on it

Is all of your other stuff going in a shipping container?

Yah 8 totes. Not sure what their plan is for how they pack it in the container but I'm not paying for a full container because that is 5000$ from Hawaii to LA.

Oh wow crazy not sure what it cost my parents we were there 5 yrs they got a 53' container put all our stuff in it and 2 vehicles, they used either Matson or sealand not sure which

I feel like it's all Matson and Horizon now. I think Matson even bought out all the Alaska shipping.. I'm going to have to rent a u-haul for 2 days to get the jet ski to shipping yard. Stressful poop...about 2 days to work hard.

So I have the base done very well but i couldnt build the box. Basically teh 2x2s act very flimsy and i cannot use small nails to "tack them in place" to then nail on the plywood and add rigidity. Stress level is shooting through the roof but I will try to think...and give it another try i hope

Build the sides (like in the pic above), on the ground, so you can nail them or screw the OSB to the 2x2/2x4 without an issue. Then use "L" brackets to secure the sides to the base. I would use screws instead of nails if possible also. Wish you were in my area, I have two nice crates from aftermarket hulls I would give you!

Thanks man. Got really stressed out and my issues was I couldn't screw(no outlets in parking garage) and I only had 1" nails for the plywood. Also my vehicle shipped Monday so I was at wit's end...

Luckily, the moving company saw I had built a nice base and they watched me lift up the jetski easily from the front with one hand so they said "hey we will take it and wrap it in some moving blankets". So hopefully everything works out alright. They were pretty awesome and took away all my stress....

So now I'm officially on Hawaii vacation living the dream for my last two weeks :)
