Super Jet How to repair fuel tank?

I found a pinhole leak in the fuel tank today from where it was rubbing against a metal fitting. Can this be repaired with 2-part epoxy and fiberglass cloth, or will the fuel dissolve the epoxy?

You need to plastic weld it. I ghetto fixed an old 550 tank with strips of pop bottles and a soldering iron once. Not pretty but it worked. You can purchase an actual welding kit though.

How do you repair it....
Buy a new one. Its the one thing that you dont want to leak under a sealed hood. Find a new one man. Buy a cold fusion tank, much better fit and holds more.

Mine had a crack in it when I bought it - previous owner had used epoxy. after several rides it failed. I tried the plastic welding trick with EPDM plastic and a soldering iron - didnt work. new one is coming in the mail.

It's holding explosive fuel....get a new one

But if you have to repair it......

Soldering iron and zip ties to melt back into the hole, or cut a small piece of a soda bottle and glue it on there using Threebond case sealant.

I have a fuel cell that came with a/n fittings on the bottom. I used JB weld to seal both of those 3/4" holes and moved the pickups to the top and it has lasted all summer and I've been pancaking the :):):):) out of it attempting backflips. JB Weld works great!

For anybody using JB Weld for anything involving fuel.......I personally made up a test batch with several different epoxies and the JB Weld will turn to mush when immersed in fuel CONTAINING ETHANOL. If you're not using ethanol fuel then MAYBE it's ok, I only tested with 10% ethanol regular gas.

l have repaired old 550 tanks by taking one of those cheap soldering irons that looks like a big sharpie.Got a thick nail like element for a tip.Just heat it up and melt the area together.lf you have to fill a hole get a small piece off another similar tank.Unless there is something in the plastic to keep it from melting back together it should work.

Now before anyone jumps and beats me up on safety.l will wash and scrub a tank out with degreaser.Rinse it real well and let it set out for a week or so.There is very little or no odor. And do it in a well ventilated area like outside.

tanks are made of HDPE high density poly ethelene. i once fixed a kart tank by getting some hdpe from taps plastic. catch it on fire and let it drip on the crack. rub the burning stick on the crack. make sure its mixed in good.

^^^^ closest ur gona get to fixing it rite...

To infuse poly plastic must heat up both plastics and mix them together. I have a brand new sj tank I just cut up and plastic welded it back together...a good welder and proper plastic ribbon strips are needed. And will hold just as well. I fix a lot of plastics and some plastics u can't weld .
