SXR Hull drain system

My stock bilge works really well and i plan to add an electric bilge but every time i trailer the ski after riding i open my drain cap and ALOT of water comes out because the bilges cant get the water that far back, anybody use a versiplug R. Or any other check ball style plug? Any experience good or bad? Info on duckbills would be good too, im leaning more towards a checkball design because it seems like it does a better job to vacate the water while riding

yea you can use a versi plug or duck bill

if you jump big waves a lot then be carefull with the versi plug... the ball in it has a tendency to get jammed into place n not allow water out

I had duckbills on my ski and almost sunk it. Ive since swapped out for versi plugs and super glued a piece of screen to them to prevent the ball from getting stuck open. Zero issues so far, and my hull is bone dry even after letting it sit in the water for awhile.

Get the regular versi plugs and when you know you ski will just be floating, unscrew the versi plugs and install your stock drain plugs. Thats what I do if I know I going to leave my ski tied behind my boat for a few hrs.

My vote goes to a good bilge setup and regular drain plugs, but I guess I don't really get why anyone wants to chance adding something that could sink your ski?

I've tried them all. Electric bilge is great if you swamp your boat and/or do lots of subs, fountains, etc and/or your motor quits and your dead in the water. Most of my skis have a electric bilge. Versi plugs or duckbillls are great to get small amounts of water out while riding. The both can fail if you get a piece of ziptie or other crap stuck in them. Duckbill suck because the rubber gets brittle and they are only ziptied on so they can fall or get knocked off. My friend invented the Versi plug back in 2006 and since there have been a few who have copied it. They work great.

Kawasaki SXR's have drain tubes from the engine compartment back to rear of ski. So does the Yamaha blaster/
The only way while riding to get water out of these area's is with a versi plug, duck bill, or scupper

My vote is for the Versiplug R. I had duckbills on my SXR and while they worked good, I didn't like how vulnerable they were to failure. if the Versiplug R's had been released back then, I would have switched in a heartbeat.

I copied the SXR engine bay to rear drain tube system in my Matrix and installed the Versiplug R. When used in conjunction with a bilge pump(s), it's big enough to handle keeping the engine bay fully drained yet small enough that even if it does get jammed open, it doesn't flow enough to overcome one much less two bilge pumps.

Oh I didn't know the SXR's had that. Why not have plugs in the engine compartment side then?

Great idea on the screen Rowley, I almost sunk my SXR in the surf from a piece of eel grass getting stuck in my Versiplug.

What is in your tray? Polystyrene? Pour foam? Nothing? A versaplug will only work for you with polystyrene or nothing in the tray. I have ran skis like this for years with no issues.

I'm not familiar with sxr's, but if you can. Install some aluminum window screen material in front of whatever drain tube you have. Preferably in the eng compartment. It will keep any debris from the engine compartment from sticking open any type of drain. Super cheap and easy insurance.

Just came back from the Watercross tour at Sparks Marina. Most of the racers run the ball type. A couple of years ego, majority ran the duckbills. hmmmmmm
