Freestyle Hull vs. Engine #2

Similar debate as a similar current thread. Rather than wondering if a AM hull with small motor is better than stock SJ hull with big motor I am wondering something a bit different. This suits my situation a little better. I have a fiberglass BOB AM hull and want to either upgrade to a carbon hull (kdx, dvx, circus), or a big motor this off season and can't do both right now.

**To choose which is first what would be better. Assume cost is the same to upgrade (~5k). Shedding a few pounds from a 90lb hull, or gaining power from a less than 800cc motor. My skill level hasn't exceeded my current setup but want to get 360s and BF down without needing boat wake or nosing in on best FW attempts. Want full rotations...

P.S.- I do 95% flatwater at a small lake and I am only source of wake for most part. And other 5% I'll travel to other lakes where I can ride with boats and better wake.

Thanks for all future input and thoughts.

Never had it weighed so can't tell ya. I was told it's 90lb hull and hood. Then it's a big bore 62t motor. Pfp. 5 gallon tank. But I don't have actual numbers

Lol because it's a BOB? Or are hurricanes hood hulls. I've seen people with small motors in hurricanes and they say good things. I was just thinking an Xscream hull would be the best bet to go straight to that way not taking steps to get to the top

my issue with a lighter hull is i am actually considering selling my carbon bob because its too light.... i dont want to get tossed around in the surf like a rag doll.... if you were closer i'd let you ride a 65 lb hull and decide from there

Well considering he said he rides 95% flat water I don't thing getting tossed around in the surf is a concern for him. I'd go hull, I have seen some scary pictures of the fit and finish on the Bob hulls until Derrick Jr. took over.

I'm more wondering about trick ability and being able to toss the ski around easiest. Does the extra money to go from 90 to 60 pounds worth wild. Or does a different hull have a style that makes flickability any better. Or is big hp the answer.

Because its a 2nd generation Bob. I would go Hurricane, last model KDX, DVD or Circus Freak

The XS stuff seems (to me) to be by far the most capable AND forgiving. I've ridden/tuned Rickters, Freaks, a Hurricane, backie Chan, and a few others.

The XS stuff does it for me. And FTR, I pay retail for my XS hulls. They just fit my riding style the best. Fit and finish are unmatched.

That said, the Hurricane wasn't bad and I didn't ride it in favorable water.

Also, Tigercraft/Aquabot is developing a new flatwater hull (love their current hull as well, but I haven't ridden a carbon one with a good motor), and the Rage Composite guys are debuting a new design at finals that is pretty trick. Their older hull is still very nice and built well. Both the Aquabot and Brawler guys are great people to work with.......

To answer the original question, a hull is where it's at for sure ;)

from my experience 30 lbs is a ton..... as far as flickability.

Well considering he said he rides 95% flat water I don't thing getting tossed around in the surf is a concern for him. I'd go hull, I have seen some scary pictures of the fit and finish on the Bob hulls until Derrick Jr. took over.

was just giving a reason why i dont like my super light or why i would be getting rid of it :p not saying him getting tossed would be an issue.

I've orded a Maxx hull as a entry level to freestyle. The price is what I can afford. Bottom plate very smiler to Bun UFO. Hull around 30Kg and hood 3.5Kg estimated. As I want to try to dance on flat water. I do want to run 900cc+ engine.

I went from a carbon lenzi sj style (40-45lbs hull) to a carbon bob g3. The bob was WAY hevaier. Hull was 90lbs with hood, turf and footholds. Then switched to kdx 48lbs big diffrence, quality i so nice and keep in mind if you are going freestyle, gotta get a hull with a suficent pump tunnel.
But you cant go wrong with xscream.
I tried the rage havoc, really a nice hull and seems to be top quality too. I didnt get to ride the hurricane, but looks good. Allso the trixstar looks promesing and superb finish

Where did you get your BOB hull from? If it's who I think you got it from than that hull and hood is about 110lbs.
Getting a carbon hull that is literally half the weight will be a HUGE gain

weighed my carbon bob last night. with pump shoe, all hardware mounting plates, pissers bilge fittings and ride plate, hood ratchet strap and turf she came in at 95 lbs. not too bad i dont think.
