If I am 6'1 would i wanna go - with my pole length?

Or would I want to go + ?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, i read all over... still haven't found the correct answer so i figured i'd start a thread.

Im still a beginner with a stock pole.

What exactly is the - or + doing...?

Anyone that could fill me in, i feel like a newbie but whatever since you guys always have the answers!

:) Thanks alot!

I too am 6'1" and I have a roundnose pole -6 on my 650sx. Every ski I've ridden it seems that shorter is better (this advice doesn't apply in the bedroom). Either cut yours or buy a spare and start cutting a little at a time until you find where you like it best.

dont think you can + (lengthen) a 100% stock set up.

most go - b/c they are trying to get low to the hood and move there center of gravity lower and more towards the front. Rec riding i see no advantage of going with a shorter (-) setup length.

yeah, should i get an aftermarket pole like - 2?

My ski bounces an awful lot, porpoise. (sp?)

Maybe a extended rideplate will cure it.

When I fix my riding style, it cures the bouncing... Just because im a beginner. I think i need to learn my particular riding style.

I disagree with those saying that that a - length pole won't help you with rec riding. I cut my rn pole -3.5 and I am short 5'6". It helps a lot for turning and propusing. Also if the pole was stock length I would be overrotating jumps all of the time. I say take two inches off of it to start, or get a -2 turnplate.

well, would I cut down my own pole?

Or buy an aftermarket pole... I.E. Aluminum, or whatever.

And then swap the poles over?

Just looking for some insight, im new to the whole thing.

or anything less than 2.5" i would recommend a shortened turn plate. most are -2. And you will have quick steer. so knocking out 2 stones with one bird o_0

search for stock shorting pole,, lots of tutorials on how to mod the stock pole for shorter. its the free route, but you cant go back if you dont like it..
