Poured about three gallons of old gas in my truck to get rid of it from my mother in laws garage. Stupid, stupid mistake. I spilled some afterwards while moving cans around and noticed that what spilled out was about half gas and half water.

How screwed am I? What would you do?

Oh man, I don't think you're screwed at all. I'd drop the tank, pull the sending unit and siphon the water off the bottom til it was 100% gas coming out the siphon.

I don't know my truck that well find it's dark and i have to go to work tomorrow. Sounds like I'm screwed after all. I'm going to try to get a Siphon down. I read that a small diameter hose like oem ski hose will get past the valve.

Gonna have to drop the tank, unfortunately even if you could bypass the fuel pump, the computer won't let it pump for more than 5 secs without engine running. This is why I wish toyota would put a damn serviceable filter somewhere outside of the tank

Dropping tanks isn't near as bad as it sounds. Floor jack and a short piece of 2x10 to support, undo the straps and lower just enough to spin the locking ring and remove the fuel pump and sending unit, drop it the rest of the way and Bob's your uncle.

In a perfect world, it's a 20-30 min job.

Then again I drive a Dodge and they are dead simple to work on. For example, I changed out both front wheel bearings last week in about 35 minutes. Not sure how Toyota's compare as to ease of repair.

I'm having it towed to a buddy's shop with my AAA. I have no time to deal with it so I get to pay instead. Fml

What about methyl hydrate? We used it up north when we got water in the tank. Also called lock de-icer. Dump 4-6 oz's in a tank and it breaks the water into small enough droplets to pass through the filters and everything else.

I dont know how old your gas was but i had some cause the repair bill to come out to 10k. Injectors sprayed the valve stems and the valves stuck, broke the rockers, locked the rings, dryer and scored the cylinders. New long block, injectors, fuel rails, lines, fuel pump module. They Got it covered by their auto insurance even though they pumped it out of their own tank on their own farm.

I was wondering if something like "dry gas" would work good enough in this situation.

It would take an awful lot of methyl hydrate or "water remover" to clear out at least a gallon of water. It's basically at an equivalent point of phase separation now and can only be cured by siphoning. It should be possible to pull the fill tube off though and do a siphon. I had to do it on an old ford once, the hose wouldn't get past the bends in the fill tube but once that tube was gone it went well.

You can get a hand operated pump from auto store or Walmart. The hose it comes with is long enough to go in your filler neck and reach the bottom of your tank. It will prob take you 30 min to pump the tainted gas in some containers but will save you in labor time and a stiff neck. You should be able to separate most of the water from the fuel, so save it for your lawn equipment

Sometimes we advertise a bunch of old couch tanks full of gas, oil and whatever on Craigslist free stuff section for guys that burn it in lawnmowers or make their own diesel fuel. One time a guy came and dumped a bunch in his car and drove off. Later we saw him broken down about a mile away with hood up and trying to fix his car. Felt bad for him, but come on.
