So I am putting my motor together. New Upgrades include Jetworks porting, 46mm BlackJacks, Boyesen FullSpec Mainifold, and New MSD TL.

My first issue was the reeds, some of the reed petal retaining screws would not thread far enough into the block because the holes were not tapped deep enough. I sent those back for replacement, no problem there.

Now the TL gives issues that could put me out for two weeks.

I have found TDC on both the MAG and PTO ends of this engine by using a quality dial indicator. According to the TL flywheel they are exactly 180* from each other, perfect.

I marked TDC on the cases by drilling a small dimple and filling it with white paint.

On to the pickup plate: I mounted the two pickups as shown in the MSD manual shimmed at .070 from flywheel (book calls for .050-.095). I aslo drilled and tapped two nylon ziptie reatainers so the wires won't bounce around. Then used some 1211 help keep things together.

I used the LED to set the static timing on the MAG cylinder to 30* per Arts recomendation. Move on to check the PTO cylinder and it illuminates at 25*:banghead:

I adjust play in pickup to correct..... there is not 5* of play there.

What is going on? MSD says "check with degree wheel, plate may be drilled wrong or you can send it in for us to measure"

Please help

Slot the pick-ups..

If your crankshaft is truly in phase (180 deg) then it's possible that the pick-ups or magnets are incorrectly drilled.. Just slot the pick-up mounting holes, give it what it needs, and carefully vefify the timing via "static" timing and again with a timing light on BOTH cylinders.

I read a post from Wattage where he had reversed the pickup on its mounting plate and had the same issue I have. Upon rearainging it back to factor specs it was good to go, though he ended up slotting the mount plate and reversing its orientation.

I just really don't wan't bunk stuff, I could slot the pickup plates, but when I pay $1000+ for a system it should be right. I don't want to modify things when its time for replacement/ repair.
