I started chopping my X2 and couldn't stop!

I don't post on here much but wanted to share my X2 build. I hope to be riding by April!
Below are just some of the highlight pictures. I'm currently working on the bottom right now and will be installig Tubbies soon.
Then the fun can start with putting this thing back together.

Well, I dragged the '87 X2 hull that was sitting in the woods behind my house for a couple years and began CHOPPING! I figured I would share my build with the rest of you X2 freaks.

Its a mess and looks like absolute hell right now but the final shape is starting to take place. Going to need to sand and fill a few more times......waiting on more epoxy resin at the moment.

Here's what's on the menu:
- Shaved hood and steering deck with custom air intake system. As seen in the pics I made a rear facing air scoop by molding around a Dole drinking cup

. To keep water out, I have a 2" PVC connection going straight down which will tee off (up high) to a 2" flex. The flex will be routed to the front of the ski and act as the intake. The other side of the tee will go straight down and 45 into the firewall and exit into the storage compartment under the seat. This will be my drain for any water that might get into the intake. What do ya think

- 90 degree rear footwells
- Scupper
- Right rear exhaust
- SJ RN fuel tank & waterbox
- 780 Big Pin with 650 electrics
- SXR stock impeller machined for 650 pump
- FPP 750 Limited exhaust
- Not sure about tubbies or a reshaped bottom. What are the opinions of you guys that have done either or both of these. My riding is 50% flat and 50% surf.

Thats it for now!:wallbang: Let me know what you think.

I mocked up the fuel tank, waterbox and exhaust hose. Looks like its going to fit and work out pretty well.
The tank and 2" exhaust hose is from a Superjet SN & the waterbox is from a Superjet RN.
Still working on the body filler and shaping.......I think I'm almost done:scared1:
I have heat in my garage while I work but can't keep it on when I'm not in there so the epoxy filler is taking forever to cure. Takes about 48 hours with the fast hardener. The medium hardener was taking about 4 full days.

Almost done with the final shaping of the bodywork........I'm seeing light at the end of the tunnel! One more round of light filler to fill some low spots and I should be ready for final sanding & primer.
Maybe then I'll break down and actually remove the remaining decals!!

I've finally been able to spend a little mor time on this. Finished up some more body work and sprayed the 1st three coats of primer.
For the most part it came out pretty good. There are a few areas that need some more filler / glazing to fill in the pin holes.
The steering deck needs a little more work but I might just turf it and be done with it. Getting REAL SICK of the body work.

It actually feels like I am getting somewhere with this project now.

Check out my OSHEA approved paint booth!! I don't think I've been that high since college

Cool build. A couple questions:

1)How many 'critters' did you have to evict when you dragged that in from the woods?

2)Did you own an old Pontiac GTO when you were younger? That is what your little scoop reminds me of. Remember the 'tach swells' that were on the hoods of the old GTOs..(maybe the GTO Judges?). I like it. :headbang:

That's a lot of work, but it'll be more than worth it once you are finished and look at the fruits of your labor. Good job. :bigok:

Don't forget tubbies.

I just bought a set from Surfjetlouie. I'll add foam and see how they fit.
Crab, what's your opinion of the hull mod you did to your X2 last year? Did you try it without tubbies first? I think I'm going to leave the bottom hull alone for now other than some necessary gouge filling.........I really can't stand anymore bodywork!

Thanks. Its been a good experience so far. I started it at the beginning of November so I've been taking my time with it.

1. Not too bad. I was afraid of what i was going to see after oprning the hood but it was mainly leaves.

2. The intake is a Dole drinking cup cut in half that I used for a mold. It's probably a tad small but its the best I could do as there is limited free space to bring air in from the top deck. There's also a secondary intake below the seat but this will only work in flatwater when the storage tray is free of water.

UPDATE:

Looks like we've got yet another Yamaha Factory pipe stuffed into an X2! I picked it up cheap so figured I would give it a shot.
This is a FPP Blaster Mod pipe with Yamaha head pipe. The only thing I had to modify was cutting the lord mount from the stock manifold and re-shape the front of the fuel tank.
Even the ignition cover lord mounting bracket is going to work. Need to make a custom braket for the top and come up with a way to connect the chamber outlet to the waterbox but both minor. Head pipe and chamber look like hell but nothing some paint or powder coat won't take care of.

Also, installed some sponsons and blended into the hull with epoxy filler. Thanks to Surfjetlouie for the great product and price.

I'm hoping to be able to paint it this weekend.

The cylinder and head are being sent off to Group K next week.

Still looking for the parts in a few posts back. Let me know if you have anything.

air intake

I hope your air intake doesn't spit water into your carbs...I see how you have it and it looks like it will work the only thing it is pointed @ the carbs...maybe piont it back or something...I have 4 tubes that run forwart to the front of the hood and stop about 4 in. before the front and just dump...Mine will hopefully not swallow too much...Great job...
