If you had a $8,000 budget what would you buy......

If you had $8,000 for your next ski what you would buy? Lets say I can get a dealer to sell me a 2014 real close to my budget...... Would you buy the 14? Would you look after market used? I have done a ton of reading on different skis, but I really just want a play boat for Havasu, no buoy racing, a little surf (maybe), really just a play boat.

Thank you for your input!!

Buy a RTR RN or SN in the 2500-4500 range with all the goodies. Then pay for gas oil and repairs. And beer.

If you are going flatwater freestyle buy a BOB RTR. Cheapest and easiest.

Every week someone else asks the same question, and every week i respond with the same warning. IMO the quality on newer SJ's it total garbage. see my thread here http://www.x-h2o.com/index.php?threads/what-should-i-do.140029/. i made the mistake of buying a 2013. it was hands down the WORST purchase i have ever made. wish i would have just saved the extra cash and gone with an AM ski or bought a 2k dollar used SJ. Hell, i could have spent 9k (which is how much yours will be after taxes and fees- my base price was 8100) on a gold toilet and i would have been happier. spending that kind of cash on the crap that yamaha puts out is stupid. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A SUPER JUNK.

If I was given $8000 and had to spend it...

For racing I would buy a 1100 sxr
For freeride/surf I would buy a am hull like a freak with a modified 701. It would have to be used for that price.

Get your self a good used AM hull, big bore motor and a mag pump.
easiest way, find a nice used SJ with all the goodies, buy it, gut it, throw all parts in AM hull. Its how i did my first am hull build.

Cheap hull, and 650 SN for all the bulk and miscellaneous parts then sell that motor and buy a decent 701/760 based motor with bpipe and stock pump with solas 13/17. Oh and buy a pole. Or if you would rather just buy a rtr Bob.

Buy RTR aftermarket ski. The hull is the most expensive piece of the puzzle when you are building a REC ski. If you are wanting to hit the surf, make sure it is a beefy tried and true hull - I saw an older FR Rickter for $8500 with a 701 a while back - looked like it could be a fun boat.
