Impeller Stuck in Wear RIng

Hey Everyone,

I have a Torrent 155 Set-Back Pro and I just got an ET 1107 so I had to get a new prop. I swapped props with the guy I bought the engine from since we practically had the same setup. I installed the Torrent 155 Cutback Long Blade. When I installed the Impeller it was a little tight but spun freely. I started the ski and noticed I had some electrical issues and had to replace the starter. I replaced the starter and started the Ski and it ran then shut off. I started the ski back up and I heard a nasty sound and then the motor was locked. I pulled the front cover off hoping that the Benedix was stuck on the flywheel but I had no luck. I pulled the pump and noticed that the impeller was stuck pretty badly and would not be able to extract the impeller. I sent the pump over to Brian at Torrent to work his magic.

I was hoping for some insight.

What would cause the Impeller to get caught in the wear ring so bad if the prop I had was the same specs (Cut Back, Long Blade, Same Pump) just a different pitch?
What damage and I looking at? New Impeller, New Wear Ring, New Pump?

Without having pictures, since I had to send the pump to Brian what are the odds that at least the wear ring is salvageable? I'm sure the impeller is a lost cause because it is going to be destroyed getting removed. Just trying to estimate the damages I am looking at.

You will be fine on stator. They can drill the shaft out at worst case scenario. Prop probably will be fine too.

Side note: At this point it would be good to pull the flywheel and check your Woodruff key, I’ve seem them shear when the crank stops suddenly….

I guess you could also see if starts without backfiring and verify it that way too, quicker

Did u check to shaft that it was not already bent prior to putting the tighter impeller on ? It just takes little with a bent shaft if your clearance are not proper...

the impeller snags and the rest is just additional damage
