Important things to know

I started this thread so people could find important things they should know really easy....

1) There is a three 5 gallon fuel container max for the ferry... bring more if you want! (just cover them up or something...).... dont know how much they enforce this, but better to be safe

2) The only gas station on the island sells only 87 octane... so if you have a high compression head make sure you bring enough fuel.

3) If you are camping for the weekend you have to book a site for a minumum of 2 days... this is because they sell out 100% of every weekend in the summer... I am assuming most people will be camping because its a really good deal... but there are other places to stay on the island if you want to drop a bit more loot.

4) There is no alcohol permitted in the campground... but everyone has it... just dont be dumb and super loud and maybe pour it in a cup and you'll be set... If you have ever camped at a state park then you know the drill....

5) Downtown Put-In-Bay is a huge party hub at night... so if you bring the kids make sure you keep'em at the campgrounds after dark!

6) There is no walk-on camping(reservation only --> link on Put-In-Bay Freeride 2008 thread), so make sure you make your reservation before the sites all fill up...

7) There is a 6 person limit per campsite... and the rangers do enforce this....

8) The rangers patrol the sites fairly regularly and there is a fence around the whole campground so your skis are safe while you're away... I have never had any issues in the past years.

9) You can drink on the ferry on the way over! bring your own brew

10) If you have never been to Put-In-Bay then you dont know what the hell you've been missing! Plan this trip NOW!

I will post up more stuff if I think of it... if you think of something make a post

11) Do not have relations with a 5' tall 300lb troll and blame it on the alcohol

12) Take the taxi's with the lights, music and "pole" in the middle. You may see some acrobatic moves by intoxicated women who fail to realize they are school teachers in real life and suddenly think they are pro's at dancing for dollars

13) Do not let random drunk guys steal a piece of your pizza. That is an ass whoopin'. Random drunk women..... Depends .. see #11 above for guidelines

14) Do not drop your beer nor submerge your head in the water at Splash! swim up bar. Take a moment and count how many people you see get out of the pool to go pee..... I am sure in 30 minutes you may still be counting on one hand. Though there was enough chlorine in there last year to turn my navy blue suit to a shade of Fuschia

15) Driving golf carts drunk is a big no no unless you happen to hop on the back of a 4 seater that was stolen for the sole purpose of off roading

16) Make friends with some hot girls...not for the reason of hooking up (unless that is what you want), but for the reason that they will be invited to party on the yachts later in the night and you can tag along. If you own one of the yachts... then you can make friends with whoever you want.

17) Believe it or not, being drunk does not mean you have the ability to jump boat to boat at night. You will fall in........... DAVE

18).... to be continued

Copied from the main thread:

The location is the boat ramp at the South Bass Island State Park (AKA Put-In-Bay State Park)

A ferry can take your car across the lake(see rates below).

There are campsites located at the Southbass Island State Park where you can launch your ski about 200 yards from your site!

There are also other places to stay on the island such as the Island Club www.islandclub.com and a few hotels (camping is much cheaper).

The ferry makes many trips every day, so you can make this trip fit your schedule.

If you want to come: make a reservation at anytime... the campsites usually fill up quickly starting about 1-2 months before the dates, and the Island Club will be full much sooner.

There is a map of the campground on the reservation link below so you can pick your own site.

Camping prices are very reasonable.

There is a TON of things to do on the island other than just ski. Winery, bars, restaurants, shops, history, bars, bars, bars.... there is never any problem finding things to do...

Well said. A fair summary of Put-In-Bay rules and regulations.

18) Do rent a moped. Then race it like a crotch rocket and jump it like its a dirt bike. But be careful, they will check it for damage, FYI.
