is this enough info to venture a suggestion

i have a rescue 61x that is giving me some issues. its stock with the exception of a protec "a" pipe. i dropped it in one of my squares and it ran but not good. would hardly get on plane. pulled carb and went through it but it really wasnt bad ,as i recall. after carb clean it still ran bad so i switched the entire elec system that came out of another rescue. unknown working condition but came from a blaster that was blown so ass-umption i made was must have been working or engine wouldnt have been able to blow.

tested it and it stumbles even on the trailer but revs up nice out of the water. water tested it and these are my observations:

-doesnt like to start unless warm or starter fluid assist
-has no bottom end, you have to coax it to life but then will run about 20-25
-actually accelerates as i give it less throttle when holding it wide open
-when i hit chop in the water it starts to pull hard like it should for a few seconds but then stumbles bad or sometimes stalls

any thoughts of what is the problem(s)

sorry im not a mechanic so type slow

152/155 on a cool engine.

on the reeds, honestly i cant remember if i looked at these or not. i know i looked at one set but cant remember if from this engine or another one. i can pull em later if that would explain the symptoms

The running poorly till it hits chop then revving great for a couple seconds is exactly how my MSD cdi acted on its way out. The ski acted like the battery was dieing or something.

Rode it again this weekend and it seems like a fuel delivery issue to me. Bogs and runs half throttle but will then jump to life and pull real hard. But will stumble again after a 3-5 sec acceleration. I'm going to switch carb from my other ski and see if that fixes it.

Exhaust leaks fill the hull with very low oxygenated air. This is why folks are pointing to an exhaust leak. O2 starved rather than fuel starved have very similar symptoms. If you knew this my apologies. I'm just trying to share the info not to be a dick. :)

Sounds like tuning issue more then fuel delivery. Exhaust leak is easy to check, hold the hood slightly open as you ride and watch.

i put out the caveat that i'm a dummy, so no offense taken :)

i rode it with out the hood off and it still does it. i think a big clue is that it takes off like a b word when i hit chop. that has to give someone, smarter than me, an idea as to whats going on.

when i hit chop it immediately starts ripping. that doesnt last though. something electrical is jiggling ...... or knocking loose clogged jet...??

there has to be a rational explanation of that very noticeable performance increase in that very specific situation

to follow up....I switched the carb from my "good" ski and its seems to be running impeccably. I just ran it for a few minutes but has great bottom end and pulls hard. we'll see how it does at the beach tomorrow

finally made it to the surf today and that old clunker ran really well. one of the peppier skis ive ridden which isnt saying much but still. it did run away like crazy every time i started it out of the water, but a buddy suggested opening up the low screw and that seemed to calm it down some.

Had the same problems, and found two problems with my ski. One was a dirty filter in the carb (filled with white fibers) and under my reed peddles was messed up
