It's time to see if penguins can fly!

Moondance

Just plain me....
OK...so is this a real plane, flying at real altitude, with you wearing a real chute jumping out of said plane? OMG.....too bad I'm not going to be there when this happens, I'd love to give the shove.

Yeah....count Moondance in - I am a big supporter of Relay for Life.

SO....is this before or after the ride?

Thanks.

I just spoke with him today about this. He is packing up his house in Colorado and shipping and U-hauling (is that a word?) his belongings to Massachusetts (where his son now lives) next month. He should be arriving in Florida to visit my family in April.

He is a special person in my life, and I hold him somewhat accountable and responsible for where I am at in my life. He personally took time off from his job to drive me to the military recruiter and I ended up joining the Air Force to learn the plumbing trade. "The rest is history" as the saying goes. :fing02:

It's really a much longer story than that, but some of you will understand what I'm saying.

military chutes are (or were) for the most part, not steerable. You can pull down on the risers to "slip" one way or another - and all that *might* do is keep you out of the trees.

steerable military chutes (like the one Mike pictured) can turn in either direction easily. I only ever got to jump one of those once - so never had a chance to really learn their full capabilities.

Sport chutes are completely different than military ones.

you would have to be third in line to push me out - others have already offered to double thier donation if they got to push me out

it is tentatively scheduled for the Saturday after the Lone Star Ride. I believe that is the weekend before the Relay for Life

Been there - done that Mike. In fact - I even did a jump with a steerable chute at Camp Blanding back in 94 or so.

You jumped with the old T10 chutes which the 82nd still jumps.:crutches: The steerable one you jumped with at Blanding was a MC1-1B "steerable" chute is alot better. Now we jump the SF10 which kicks ass and I usually land like a feather. I'm getting to old to be slamming into the ground like I used to.

Well, the first part of the song...

"Do it if you dare
Leaping from the sky
Hurling through the air
Exhilarating high
See the earth below
Soon to make a crater
Blue sky, black death
I'm off to meet my maker

Energy of the gods, adrenalin surge
Won't stop 'till I hit the ground, I'm on my way for sure
Up here in the air, this will never hurt
I'm on my way to impact, taste the high speed dirt
"

Thanks to Megadeth, I can't think of skydiving or basejumping without a mental image of this song. :headbang:

Not that it would stop me from jumping if I could afford it.

I'm am pleased to inform you that penguins CAN fly - but not of their own power. If it weren't for a parachute I would have ended up as a greasy stain on the countryside.

as soon as I can figure out how, I'll post the video as evidence for those of you who pledged your support.

now - if 1 deadbeat would mail a check, I can get the remainder of my donations turned in.
