300/440/550 JS440 with rooster tail adapter

As we were putting up last week a guy pulled up with an older Jet Ski. He said it was a 550, but the exhaust pipe (plus the 2 foot long exterior exhaust hose) looked like a 440 for sure.

He had a weird exit nozzle that converted nearly half the power to a rooster tail. Considering he was riding a 30hp ski I would have thought he wanted ALL the power for GO instead of SHOW, haha.

Yeah, did early 550's have that tiny pipe/exhaust manifold? All the ones I have owned had the Jet Power exhaust.

Jet Power didnt come into play till 87 or 89 I forget which

Jet power was in 1986,the 550s had a really funky looking exhaust pipe before that.They also had 38mm carbs,they ran ok like that the 86 was much faster and had more bottom end power.

Sounds like the old "Rooster Shooter" A drop down water diverter to make a big roost. It should have had a lever for it on the bars though.

Yeah I have of those on my TS,the cable on it is all rusty and will have to be replaced.
