SX/SXi/SXi Pro Just bought an sx

Got me a 92' 750 sx today, bone stock seems to run good. Just wondering what key components should be checked before riding, 18 year old ski probably needs some maintenance.

Very new to riding got hooked on a buddies ski about a year ago but he moved.

I noticed it has the original oil pump, is this a good thing to block and go premix? If so what mix of oil? Also what gas octane is good for these?

Im gonna hold out on any mods til end of summer when i feel way more comfortable with riding. probably will remove pink and purp stickers though.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do i need to buy the block off bracket for the oil chamber? Saw one pretty cheap somewhere.

Also what do i do about the oil tank? I know to take it out but there is a bungie cord holding it on to the gas tank, this bungie cord seems to hold gas tank down as well.

I saw a couple different gas tanks going through some of the threads, are these aftermarket or a different year ski (sxi, pro)?

I have a ton of questions, this is my first watercraft so just bear with me.

Thanks again.

Get a block off plate.
Just throw the oil tank out. I don't think you would be able to sell it or even give it away.
Just leave that bungy a bit loose. The foam will hold that tank good enough. Some people will twist the the bungy to take up the excess but they always seem to split at the grommet part after a bit with that stress.
They are set up to run 85 octane out of the factory. So if you have old pump gas (87) laying around and it has lost some octane over time you do not detonate the pistons. Most people run 93 octane.

Or you can do one knot on bungie and this way it's will be fine.
I was holding my fire ex. and piece of rope there after I install footholds

if your just going to ride the oil injection is fine. I have a couple of friends who just want to go to the lake, have fun and not deal with mixing. If you want to get rid of weight and do mods, then yes pull it. If you want to check anything check compression, change plugs and check them for any damage. Or just do what I do go ride, have fun, run it till it blows, and build it bigger!

Ordered a oil block off, tethered kill swith, and a tether, from ebay. Just dont want to have to swim after ski when i fall off.

What is a crank case drain block off, and do I need one. Do i need to remove motor to put this on?

If you leave the tether switch off, the ski will pretty much come back to you when you fall off. With the tether you'll have to swim for it. The lenght of swim will depend on how fast you were going when you came off.

If you are thinking about subbing your ski I would leave the crankcase drain on, I have never had one fail and they really help get the water out of an engine that drank too much.
