Kill switch not working

Forgive me is this has been asked a million times before. I have a 90 SJ. The white and black wires are disconnected near the carbs. As of now, the ski starts. The idle is turned down so it cant idle. If I turn the idle up, it will idle but not shut off by pressing the red button or by pulling the lanyard. Now when I reconnect the black/white wires, the thing will not start. Im guessing the problem lies inside the black box? And should I bother to fix this, or leave it as is?

This is off topic of my original question, but I was just wondering if a 90 sj is worth keeping for the long haul and modifying it along the way? Or should I buy a different/newer model ? I plan on riding in the surf in the near future, but I'm no trickster, and won't be for a long time, if ever. But I like to push my tiny envelope, and ride as hard as I can.

see, I never realized its a safety factor issue. How so? Like, if it keeps running when I fall, sort of issue?

The way you have described it (with a non-functioning lanyard) if the throttle jams on for whatever reason and you fall off you'll have a runaway 'ski. I'll just leave to your imagination the conequences if your 'ski damages the property of another or maims/kills any other individual/s - no riding until you have the switch fixed!

That model switch assembly is known to give trouble - I've gone through several. Jet ski Solutions offer a switch refurbishment service that will probably provide a better-than-new prospect of reliabilty.

SN Superjets split very easily, i've seen a guy put a huge crack down one just by landing funny when jumping off a smallish wave. It either needs reinforcing or upgrading to a reinforced RN hull. Either way surf riding will destroy your hull eventually if it's not reinforced.

Good choice on the new Start/Stop.....they never last long after they start to go bad. I didn't realise Jet maniac sells just the harness...I've just spent £150 ($250) ish on a whole new unit. Parts over the pond seem to be so much cheaper than in the UK.

I'll fix it, thanks. The last thing I want is for it to become a torpedo !

It's a lot of work to make it sea worthy! Whats the RN hull? Is there any existing threads on here explaining the difference of reinforcing my current hull, vs upgrading the hull ?

RN is round nose. I believe they are slightly stronger than the SN (Square nose). There will be 'How to' section somewhere on the forum with instructions. It's not something i've done....I just upgraded to an AM hull once i knew i was going to be hooked on Freeride.

All oem superjet hulls (SN 90-95 and RN 96-14) need to be reinforced and modified for any kind of serious surf riding. The SN pole is weak especially at the pivot and you will break it after riding in the surf eventually. The SN hood lets in alot of water and need to be modded for surf riding.

But the 90 SN is a great first ski to learn to ride with. You can do some upgrades and learn to ride, then switch the driveline to a different hull or sell and upgrade when you have some experience and know what you want later.

I see, thanks. When I get better, I will buy a different ski. I will still keep my current one though. It could not hurt to have 2.

I searched, but could not figure out what the AM hull is?
