Okay I want some input here ,I am thinking of putting together a small freeride on Lake Martin this year tenativly the date would be after Labor day.I think we could actually get a large amount of the Wind creek state park by that date as it stays booked up most of the summer. What I need to know is this ,What other events are going on around that time period, races, rides etc.I have the site pretty well locked up as well as permission from the water patrol, permits and the like should not be a giant issue.I would love to just start a small event and work up from there kind of like the way Lanier ride started................All input is welcomed, thanks.

Hey wedoseadoo, I just looked at the freeride calender and their is nothing in May and race schedule wise-looks like the 24th and 25th of May would work well. Below is the tentative race schedule for this year. I will help either way if u want to do Martin or Smith. If we did a Martin ride in May, I could try to put together a Smth ride on Aug 16th-17th.

Well that weekend of May is Memorial day weekend. Do you want a bunch of water popo chasing you around? Not a good idea to have a freeride on a holiday weekend imo.

I agree and why we never did the Lanier ride on Memorial Day weekend.... Too much lake traffic and DNR present.

Why not do it the weekend that we usually do the SFF - But we do want our weekend back next year when we have water.....LOL:cheer:

I personally think that weekend should be a national holiday and be named so for SFF:bananajump:

If it is held at Martin everyone needs to know ahead of time that the area is dry and drinking could easily ruin it for everyone else. My family has a house on Lake Martin and we don't currently have any problems with the water patrol. Any bad behavior could cause our lake to become like Lanier. At least partly as a result of past freerides, the DNR at Lanier is now VERY strict and watches standups closely. I don't think it should be a problem. After all, the whole thing is about friends getting together and hanging out and riding anyway, right?

I dont think drinking is responsible for most of the attention that we get on lanier now, I think it is more the fact of 40 standups chasing boats up and down the lake...... There is plenty of drinking on the water, just take a cruise down to cocktail cove....... there is as much beer and alcohol on the boats as there is gas in their tanks......... Or drugs for that matter.........

Bottom line, Who needs alcohol? I dont...........
I do not see any reason why we cannot have a ride where alcohol is not the main attraction.

I agree that alcohol is not the only reason, but it is a part of it. The thing with chasing boats is a very real issue. Either way, we have been UNinvited back to Lanier as a group. Not sure what will make it any different at Lake Martin. If Gil has actual support at Smith, why not do it there? If things are the way they have been at Lanier in the past there may very well be an UNinvitation for us at Lake Martin also. I'm not completely against it, I'm just concerned that the good thing we have now may be damaged.

Charles, your concerns are very valid as we personally went through "not-wanted" back at Lanier. That also caused them to "super-police" the waters during all the weekends during the summer. Their presence in our riding area was doubled this past summer... It sucked for us locals! At the ride, There main concern was the disrespect that their officers received from some of the riders along with the their inability to police all the riders on the lake! They said that they would take a rider to jail if they saw them do anything as minimum as jumping off a wake. They said they gave a few citations for drinking, but I don't think that was the main reason behind their refusal to allow us to hold the freedride at Lanier. Just my personal input as I don't want anyone to go through what we did last year in organizing the SFF or simply enjoying riding on the weekend.

Ok heres the skinny ,alcohol is allowed in the park that much has been determined, however drinking and driving boats, personal watercraft, cars whatever is absolute stupidity in ALABAMA and you will be treated like the stupid person that you are for doing so.From talking with the water patrol it would be similar to Daytona,an area would be bouyed off and the event would be held in that area,if you wish to venture outside that area normal rules and regs would apply to you, inside that area for the safety of all concerned drinking and riding would be heavily frowned upon by me and everyone else,if caught doing so expulsion from said event is a real and definate possibility. So peeps there it is.

Just plain me....
I don't think boating & drinking is the issue. It's after a hard day playing that some peeps want to enjoy an adult beverage at night. No body wants to get hassled for enjoying a beer with dinner.
