LED Lightstrips

I want to put leds on the bottom off my bike i can buy the strips meant for a bike and pay $100.00 for sixteen inches kinda crazy priced for me. But i was also looking at the led light strips for like stairways or pathways that are water proof and like $10.00. Will this light stripping work if i can get in like 16-20 inch strips? I dont know if i would have to connect it to my battery or if it comes with a battery in the strip. Being an LED it would use very little power. Thanks for looking and please give me your thought on that?

Just make sure they run off 12 volts, wire to your battery with a waterproof switch.
