What the Heck is the difference in certified life jacket and wake board one??

where do i get a certified SIDE buckle life jacket??????

can't tell you the exact difference...but I use a side entry jetpilot, unfortunately its not canadian coast guard approved but I just steer clear of the popo. Haven't had a problem yet. I don't suggest it though.

Your best bet locally to try some on would be boardsports...believe they are located on yonge just south of eglinton. I bought my wifes jacket there earlier this year and they had a huge variety.

most wakeboard jackets are not USCG approved. I have a rip curl jacket that wont keep my head above water. It's basically just something there to be 'legal' ..they really help with weight and maneuverability while being towed behind a boat.

I never wear that rip curl jacket now that I got a slippery matrix. They are designed so if you knock yourself out, there is more padding on the chest so you float facing up. And they are cheaper than most wakeboarding jackets!

I tried a vest that was not USCG approved and did not like it at all. In the unlikley event that I get in an accident I would want a quality vest to keep above water. Or at least give me the luxury of not having to tred water. I like the Slippery Matrix vest. Any vest that was designed for active watersports and is USCG approved

I picked up a womens three buckle JP vest for $65...they did have a ton there, I had to ask though which ones were approved.

I have my old JP side entry vest you can use for the rest of the season if you want. Size L/XL. Would do you just fine until you find one of your own. I am in scarborough. Let me know.

Cool man , i appreciate it....i'll PM you my number hopefully it fits. Wha are you doing in long weekend, i'll be at Sauble Beach with 2 other standups.

Canadian coast guard aproved life jackets need to have 15 pounds of bouyancy,

the slippery matrix has 21 pounds (which is better) just it hasn't been tested in canada due to low sales compared to what it costs to certify

I'm running a JP A-10
AAAAAvIJGnAAAAAAACrkng.jpg

Non USCG approved of course but the difference in weight, and ability to move is unreal

Edit:

This vest will hold my head above water. I'm around 150lbish however it will not hold it up high, sometimes hardly at all and will not put you face up either, its justa flip of the coin. I dont ride alone anyway. It's enought o keep me up till someone gets to me if something goes down

I have the JP Stance.

Next go around, I'll probably go with one with Glideskin (or something similar). The only thing I don't like about the Stance is that it holds water. I believe the Glideskin may get rid of that.

Non-certified vests not only have less buoyancy, but they are typically referred to as "impact vests". They offer some padding in the chest and back area to offer limited protection when you hit the water.
