lightweight battery

Just how it sounds. It is a very light battery that has a very low amp hour rating and just enough CCA to crank the ski. I think that you might be better served using a little heavier battery with more AH & CCA. The 11 pound Deka ETX15L is a good choice. Ask RD about it. You might be able to get by with the ETX12, it is only 9.4 pounds. Both are AGM batteries which work well.

Try this battery, it weighs 5lbs- go to http://www.interstatebatteries.com and in the search bar at the upper left hand corner put in this part number-FAYTX9. I tried to link the page here but the link wouldnt work it was too long. It can crank over a Polaris 500cc 4-stroke motor with at least a 12:1 compression ratio which translates to roughly 200lbs of compression.

I used the Everstart ES4-LB from Walmart all last summer. Worked great in my superjet, and at only 4lbs it was awesome.

the drawback for me came in fall. I had to go back to my Dekka Gel battery as the ES4-LB only has abou 30 CCA's (cold cranking amps) where the heavier Dekka has over 300. In our colder fall weather the ES would not turn the ski over.

I think someone on here posted a while back about a 4lb battery that had much more CCA's, I'll have to research that again.

I just read 7 long boring posts about batteries and my head is spinning.
All I want is a lighter than stock, sealed battery that will last. Am I asking for much ??

My 4lb Neverstart lasted 8 months which isn't bad.
Since I need a new one I figured I would go all out and buy something nicer like a sealed battery but I can't figure out these model numbers and benefits of all these other batteries.
Got my self so confused that I think I will just pick up another 4 pounder and call it good.

Not going to miss out on riding next weekend just because I can't tell what is what. :aargh4:

That's the problem I've run into. Everyone says the everstarts suck but no one really gives a good alternative battery that's roughly the same weight and even close to the same price. I don't mind something that's 5-6 lbs but at $100-$150 I can't really justify that.

This is a long shot but has anyone tried the Deka ETX9 ?
120 CCA's and 6.3lbs, sounds good.

also, gel v's glass pack. Which is better and why ???

Was your post one of the ones that was boring? This is one of those subjects like, which is the best oil, there is no good answer. I would think that the Deka ETX9 would be a much better choice than the cheapo 4lb wet battery at wally world. You will prolly get twice or three times the service life from a good AGM battery over a cheap wet counterpart. I personally run the Deka ETX 15L but am considering the ETX12. Both will work but the lighter you go the less reserve cranking you will have. You have to decide what it is worth when you water log your engine. The lighter battery will definitely crap out sooner than the heavier as you are cranking the crap out of it to dry out.

You should be able to get any of the Dekas for less than $100. Find a distributor or check some of the online battery retailers and find your best deal. The Gel & AGM technologies should always out perform the old standard wet cell batteries. Since the plates are surrounded by a gel electrolyte or a glass mat they are supported better and will stand up to more vibration and pounding before breaking loose. Many here will agree that the JetWorks gel is a great battery, the Odyssey used to be good but recent models suck. I have owned a couple of Deka AGMs for years and they still crank great. If you do go with a gel or AGM be sure and buy a smart charger designed for those type batteries. If you try to use an old style charger you will cook them in short order no matter how careful you are.

Here is an online retailer that has the ETX9 for less than $50

i use the power source sealed battery by lynn vick products. the model number is WPX4L-B. mine cranks my sj over with 180 pounds of compression. my battery is on its second season and i pay $20 for it at my local yamaha shop. i just asked to see there moped batteries and i picked the smallest one. the best part is it fits perfectly in the sj battery tray if you turn it sideways. then i hook the battery strap to the gas tank hook and it works like a champ.

With the prices of the ETX9 and ETX12 being so close I am tempted to take the 3lb hit for the extra power of the ETX12.
It's still lighter than stock.

Idok, got a model number ??

Ericfox, I have the details of that one and will see what they cost locally.
I know I can get Deka easily from a local place but not sure about the Yuasa.

Rather pick one up locally just in case I need to return it for warranty but if the price is wright I'll order it online.
