Blaster Lightweight Blaster Mod of a Freestyle MX Bike

I have this dream for a blaster mod that incorporates more dirt bike features while lowering weight for better aerials. Possibly a redesigned seat with hand rails and a shock system like the Seadoo 3D but higher. Also suspension for the handlebars would be nice.

I don't have any concrete ideas for a final ski yet but I've been dreaming about this blaster for a long time. I want to see FMX tricks on a blaster that we haven't seen with the stock (outside) skis right now.

I like the blaster hull as is I think if it was just fitted with a new seat system and hood (- all unnecessary weight that can be spared) It could be changed into something wicked.

Anyone else ever try anything like this or want to?

Yamaha used to sell a B1 steering kit with built in suspension. The way the B1 seat base it attached to the deck, it leaves a lot of options to build something different without chopping the basic ski to bits.

I put some serious thought into making my own blaster hood last winter. Mainly to increase strength, but I also wanted to raise the steering and change the styling. One thought I had was to perfectly mimic the scale and positioning of a mx bike. Well, after scaling some photos (honda something or another 125) and overlaying them with photoshop it turns out that even a stock blaster has quite a bit in common with a bike like this. The only real difference is the steering height. The center of gravity is a bit different too, but only with relation to the ground, not the rider (which is more important for aerials). Another thing that will affect aerial tricks is the distribution of weight (ie moment of inertia). The hull of a blaster makes its weight much more spread out than an mx would be and that inhibits rotation. The extra 100# isn't exactly helping things either.

Note how the seats line up perfect and the green line I drew through the peg is just about exactly at the height of the gunwale. Raise the steering and it is almost a perfect match. Coincidence? Not likely.

Sounds like a cool project. Build thread maybe? Sure would be nice to watch something like this go together.

Here is an idea for you, make the transom area convex. That alone could solve most of the issues back there.

I'm glad to see that there is interest in this. Jays333 you've done a lot of what I was talking about already, that blaster on your site is sweeet. I really like the reshaped nose

A built tread for this would be a good idea. I'd like to see how jays333's comes along. I won't be able to start my own blaster till I get home in april, but It would be nice to get a couple of jumping off pointers if anyone is willing to share pics of their own try at this..:naughty:
