Slightly off topic but I know I am not the only one in the market for one of these.

I purchased a 12,000 btu portable cooling/heating unit that just isn't cutting it so I am returning it tomorrow and putting the refund towards a good deal on a 9000 - 12000 Ductless mini split unit.

I have heard of people getting them for as low as $650 but the reviews for those units are not great at all. I have installed a couple Mitsubishi commercial units at work and feel they are one of the better choices but they start in the $1200 range for a 9000 BTU 24 SEER unit.

Anybody have any insight, inside tracks or experience with a budget unit that will last more than a season?

The Mitsubishi has a great product backed by a 5 year parts, 7 year compressor warranty. It will last ya 10+ years ocd. If you ever had to move it you could. The refrigerant can be pumped back into the condenser, and everything else taken apart.
Uses one 15 amp breaker with a run to the outdoor disconnect switch. One Low voltage 4 wire goes between the outdoor unit and indoor unit.

They're quiet, low maintenance & use washable filters also

You need a vacuum pump/gauges & flare tool for the connections. Basic tools required for rest of installation

I can install one in a few hours.

I bought a Mitsubishi mini split for our maintenance office about 4 years ago. Not sure of the size but it cools a 12x12 room very well even with in and out traffic. The main thing that I like about it but our mechanics leave the thermostat in the 60*s 24/7 all summer and we have had no problems out of it. It's very quiet as well.

I have a vacuum pump, gauges and flare tool so it sounds like I'm all set!

Now all I need is to save up a bit more $$ and find the cheapest source for a Mitubishi.

In the meantime, this should help keep things in check. Average internal temp before were 88F.
