Other Looking for advice on a crank

I have searched and only found really old posts about sbt cranks and hot rod cranks. I was wondering if any opinions have changed on either brand or if there is something better. A couple bearings on my crank are somewhat noisy and I am getting a motor built so I figure I should replace it. Its for a superjet also.

This is really up to you. There's many many posts about the pros and cons of both, but there's no reason to continue the debate..... Buy what your comfortable with for your build.

I've used sbt cranks in 3 engines now and had great success. I'm running one now in a 718 with 195/195 psi compression and working on season 2 now. No abnormal noises. I can't vouch for the others so I can't say if they're better or worse, but I know sbt's have held up for me. Good luck with your research.

I rebuild cranks in house for most applications, but when it comes to PWC I use SBT. For the cost and warranty i cant compete. In the 5 years I have been using them I haven't had a failure. I'm not saying they are the best, but they have held up for me and my customers. Just my personal experience.

I am running an SBT crank on 3 seasons now
seems to be good. if you get the sbt seals, throw them away and
buy some oem crank seals. you wont regret it!

We have used in house and/or sold well over 300 SBT cranks now with great results.

They have been used in DASA and Xmetal SS billet motors and many other high compression motors (215-220 psi) as well.

I have one in my BB781 for almost 2 years with 215psi and just did teardown inspection and rebuild. Everything looked great still.

i have a crank works billet crank +4 stroke in a jetworks yami engine. Im running kawi couplers. im new to them and it def vibrates more. My question is about heat. Do they run hotter than oem? my engine cases & block stay at a good temp but my couplers are hot as hell. LIke the crank is transfering a lot of heat. Never really noticed hot couplers before. anyone experienced this or have any idea if its normal? Ill have to get a reading but gets pretty hot .

Hot couplers -> bad alignment, typically. The crank itself does not get (very) hot because it is constantly cooled by air/fuel (and probably some water) mixture.

my shaft could be pressed back out too my coupler gap is getting big. Ill mess with a few things and try again. theres to much friction somewhere in the line

In my experience, the gap is usually not the problem. I've ran anywhere from 2mm to 8mm gap without issues. Heat comes from misalignment. And I'd guess that it's directly at the midshaft, because the pump shaft is watercooled. (obviously)

You are seeing these heat problems in the water, right? Because it's normal for the coupler to get hot out of the water.

yea probably 6-8mil gap. ive had broken mounts before and never noticed the couplers getting hot. ill look over the alignment again its gotta be the problem. i rode about 3 miles to a hangout and i noticed it the worst.
