I have a 03 800 sxr and was wondering how you do the freestyle stuff on them. I have no one to learn from and from watching the vids i cant believe what is possible.. I see guys talking about doing freestyle on older machines so it has to be possible. My ride is stock far as i know. any help would be great thanks. by the way im on flat water. Les

With an sxr I would start with hood tricks and subs. Pleanty of cool videos out there...just keep trying over and over. Also remember to keep your speed up, its more scary but actually a lot easier to do most things when going a little faster.

First off you need a way to hold onto the hood for most hood tricks. Check out Blowsion for their drop in hand holds. As you learn and practice you will take in a lot of water into your engine compartment so a bilge pump is a must. My SuperJet stock hood had air intake holes on the front that I duct taped over so air (and water ) only entered in the rear. This helped quite a bit. Also the heavy SXR needs a little more power to wake it up. An aftermarket pipe is the most bang for the buck. Check out factory pipe. I would also install lifters, or 2" X 10" (or so ) pieces of Hydroturf on both sides of the rear of your ride tray. These will help your feet "hold" the boat for subs and nose stabs. Gluing these is a lot less work than cutting footholds (which you may do later). I wouldn't do more than this to a SXR as you will probably discover that the SXR is great for carving bouys, but not terrific for FS. It is, however, a great way to get hooked on riding, which is the most important thing. Good Luck!

thanks for the imput so far guys. Ok so i do also have a93 750 sx also but that thing is such a gutless wonder. it does seem more unstable and drifts the rear way easier. is that better to do free style with???. I have done some of the water cannons and tried to get the thing to dive but not much luck. I really want to do a barrel roll but dont know if it is really all machine or mostly rider. I rode a super jet few years ago and did not notice myself doning things any better so think alot is rider skill... How do you learn the technique to do this stuff?? I see all these much older sx doing bad ass stuff and makes me crazy. thanks..

Main thing is the SXR weighs a ton, and for freestyle you want to get as light as possible. You should be able to get the 750 to easily put out more power than the 800 (stock). Then get some footholds and start playing around. Footholds aren't needed for basic stuff, though help with the more aerial specific tricks (and I prefer having holds even if I'm just rec riding). My perspective is rolls are more rider and technique than power, so just need to ride your ski balls to the wall and once you are able to manipulate the ski however you want on the water (spin it, carve, slide, etc. all the things that require good balance), then can try throwing it around in the air.

That's my general path I'm taking to try and roll/flip my 650sx. Always try to be squeezing more power out of it one part at a time, and in the meantime just try pushing myself further and further and perfecting what I have until I'm confident in my ski and my abilities to throw the thing around off a wake. Keep in mind rolls hurt if you mess them up usually (broke off my primer from my knee hitting it trying a roll), so all the more reason to not get ahead of yourself. My $0.02

i would rather do freestyle with a 750sx than a sxr.. you rarley see someone using a sxr for flat water freestyle.. put some mods into the 750, and then if it still isnt good enough switch to a superjet!!!

So what are good upgrades to do to it. its all stock other than some hydo turf. I hate to stick money in an old machine but if that is worth it then that is what shall happen... is it all about HP??? does a different prop and ride plate make the difference for tricks??

do you have footholds? if you dont and you feel like ripping apart the tray then install those. if you dont want to start hacking until you see if you like it or not, put footstraps in. i had a stock sn superjet and wanted to get more into freestyle but our turf was in great condition, so we installed two footstraps side by side.. they worked great. i would also consider getting a factory pipe and see where that takes you.

had an sxr and a 750 definitely would go the 750 route out of the two. But I just picked up a rn recently and that kills both of them so if you can swing one get that they also keep their value a lot better, sold the 750 about a month ago and basically had everything on it and they just don't really compare the sj handles better and is lighter.

what is a RN?? how do the foot straps mount in?? I dont want to buy another ski so probally just mod these some. dont want to get to much money sunk into them either. honestly wanted to sell the 750 cause it is so slow right now.

round nose superjet newer body style 96+, it will take a good bit of money to mod your stock 750 and you wont get much of a return if and when you sell it . I'd sell the 750 maybe the sxr too and get a round nose superjet with some parts already on it.

there is a Japanese guy doing a ton of tricks on SXR, and looks pretty stockish to me. Protect your engine from water ingestion and spend the rest on fuel for now :)

This is a good video that will give you some SXR freestyle info

OH man I was trying find this video the other day! lol

For the original poster. put footholds in the 750, learn some stuff, then upgrade to a Superjet! Trust me I am one of the guys on here that spent a crap ton of money on modding a 750 (putting a yamaha motor in one) and I still went to a Superjet!

Or sell the SXR and the 750 right now and get a superjet.
