I've been casually looking for and over/under double barrel to upland hunt and shoot trap with. I've read several articles comparing some guns under the $1000 mark, which is my budget. Anyone one here have any first hand experience they'd care to share?

Browning Citori or Beretta Silver Pigeon. I wouldnt be afraid to buy a used model either. We have both of those in our family...they are nice! There are different models but at the price point you are looking to spend, those will be the best.

Maybe I've only come across the higher end models, but both of those retail at or above $2k from what I've seen. I'll do some more looking.
I've been keeping an eye out for used as well. If I can find a higher quality gun used I would go that direction. I'm currently shooting a Franchi Semi-auto that I've had from 12 years and have thousands of rounds through on the Marsh for ducks and goose hunts and the always impressive $300 870 express for upland hunting and early season teal/wood duck hunts. The Franchi has been flawless, with only one incident of jamming in all those years and it's seen some nasty conditions.

On my list so far:
Stevens 555
CZ uplander Sterling or Mallard
Franchi Instinct L
Stoeger Condor (cheapest by still shoots well from what I've read)

Those will all work fine as well too....we have a Franchi and it shoots fine. I just always like to spend a little more on a gun that will last and hold its value for many years to come.

This will only be used for upland hunting and trap/sporting clays. Doubt I'll even shoot 3" through it

Sub'd! I have been wanting to find one in 20ga for my old man. After two shoulder dislocations the ol' 12ga is becoming a bit much.

And over/under in a 20ga? If you want something with less recoil that can shoot too shots, a semi auto 12ga would be a good choice. Only downside to me is the gun is longer overall, so shooting skeet can be difficult, but perfect for trap, 5 stand, etc.

20 and 28 ga are very popular. Not everyone needs 3 1/2 12ga to hit a pheasant haha ;)

Semi auto is probably the way to go. The over/under's are just so pretty!

If you can find one a Ruger Red Label is a great shot gun. I used the 20 gage sporting clay for about 15 years for upland birds and loved it. Light weight and very dependable.

this is my dream shotgun. no one ever sells the red labels. i want a 3" 20 or 28 so bad
