Super Jet loose motor mount hull fitting

The Penguin

triple secret probation
getting ready to put new motor mounts in my square and found that one of the hull fittings is loose - not loose enough that it will pull out of the hole, but loose enough that it turn slightly by hand.

any suggestions on how to fix it? I was thinking that some epoxy or resin would help, but not sure either one is thin enough to flow down into the area.

It's the front fitting of the front right motor mount

i would say epoxy also, but make sure you put a junk bolt in it or something to keep from messing up the threads

I used some pc-11 on a gp1200 1999 and it seemed to work. maybe find a plastic syringe and use that to deliver it or drill a small hole to get in there.

I would try to remove it completely and epoxy it back in.

X2 it is already bad and should be properly repaired now. Dont be afraid.

Use small drill bit and drill a series of holes around the insert. Put bolt in and use to remove insert.
Take sander, dremel whatever you have and remove all the plastic off of the brass insert.

In the hole where insert was enlarge it around the bottom sides so the bottom diameter is larger than the top of the hole.
Use epoxy (west marine g-flex is my favorite for this type of repair) and coat insert and fill hole partially with resin. Put bolt in insert and reinstall insert in hole. Spin around some to get good coating, remove excess. Good as new.

yes. if it doesnt hold you can always go deeper later. but I think it will get you set for some time. those inserts usually come loose if the mount was loose to begin with?

Heard some good things about west systems g flex, as I plan to use it to strengthen some areas where their is stress cracks in my hull. One thing I learned (the hard way)_ when looking at epoxys is that some are VERY Strong, but are brittle to impact like the six10 by west marine. But the Gflex 655 is designed for materials that have to flex alittle. Gflex 655 comes in a tubes and is paste like viscosity, making it easy for a job like this.

Hi old thread but i ran into similar problem. My motor mount bolt seared off into the brass bushing. I couldn't get it out with a bolt extractor without damaging the brass bushing. Did you have to replace that bushing?

If your insert is damaged, then just replace it with another threaded corrosion resistant metal M8-1.25 insert. We have inserts, bolt, and g/flex if needed.
