Maybe it’s over heating

I was out on the lake yesterday with my 89 650. Ride it for a good hour on the throttle pretty good. A few short breaks in between. I was going wide open down the lake and the ski slowly bogged down and died. Immediately started up and ride again. I kept riding for a while and it started to big a couple more times. I lost most of my bottom end power and it would go slow at first and then work up. I assumed it was overheating. The pisser was spraying water but not a whole lot. Do you think my issue yesterday was overheat? I ran it a week before all day and it did amazing. No issues what so ever.

BK knows way more than me. And I am unsure of whether or not your carb has an internal strainer/filter in it or not. But in our Mikuni SBN44 carburetors there is an internal filter on the side opposite the fuel pump side which gets clogged with deteriorating fuel hose line which in both of our Yamaha skis has caused the very same symptoms. Fuel starvation can also be caused by a malfunctioning or backwards installed fuel tank check valve which won't let air into the tank to replace the fuel that the carb is pulling from the tank and into the engine. Wouldn't hurt to check those things too in addition to what BK said
