I would like to get my head milled on my RN Superjet, I did a search and they all brought up measuring squish to figure out how much to mill, Im new to 2 strokes, so bare with me please.... But what is squish so I can measure it, and what other info would I have to tell a machine shop, or is there a specific amount to usually have taken off, Im looking to run 92 or 93 pump gas, I should be looking to get about 180psi for compression right??? my ski has around 140-145 right now stock.

the search function on this site works very well.

click on advanced, and type things like " squish AND check"

or "checking AND squish"

you will find it.

since you put it that way.

just send it off somewhere, spend the money at LPW or team scream, or groupK, have them mill it.

since you obviously dont know what it is, or how to measure it, how in the hell would you cut it?

Right I wouldnt cut it myself, there is a machineshop in town that does good work I have dealed with them before and I would like to continue to give them my buisness. I was just trying to be proactive and get my ducks in a row before I called them and was like hey mill this head for I want 180psi... I would rather bring them the head and say hey can you take .xxx off this head for me.

its been discussed lots, and its all there you just have to read (alot)

I wasnt trying to be an ass.

just pointing out, to send it off, you dont need to know any of that stuff really.

It involves solder, in the plug hole, perpindicular to the wrist pin, spin the engine over, measure the solder thickness, and if you had it positioned in the correct portion of the head dome, it will give you an idea what the 'squish' area is.

if you dont have a Mill, just send it off

He wouldnt be telling them how much to take off, only a target squish size, or desired octane fuel to run.

if he sent it to a GOOD ski shop.

if he goes to a local old machinest, then yes, he will need to know all that stuff.

BUT, he will pay the same most likely, and Id have more trust in someone who has done more than one of them.

I dont think your an ass, I know it gets annoying when people ask questions covered alot... thats why I apologized! Didnt think it was covered that much.

Depending on the cost, maybe I will just send it out to one of thee above. Thanks for the recommendations.

Kennay thanks for the links! Definatley helped.

Dayum. the reason I like this site is because people are helpful and friendly. Dude was asking a legit question and said he had searched for it. A good saying that I try to keep in mind is "If you can't say anything good, don't say anything at all." Are you having a bad evening?

I was trying to explain to him how to use the search function in a more productive manner, thus allowing him to help himself instead of having to rely on us all the time.

and as far as your little child poem " cant say anything good"..

pot, meet kettle.

I apologize if I offended you, I was just curious as to why one's question was being greeted in such a manner that would deter him from trying to inquire about something here. Your reply was pretty harsh. I was actually thinking about squish and what little I know about it the other day....and thought this would be a good thread to read. I guess I was incorrect. If you feel, I am saying something bad, please take it to a pm with me.

And as for the quote, it isn't a "child poem," it is a song by a christian rock band called Third Day......

On and On... she goes
Where she stops no one really knows
Everybody's got a problem so it seems and
She ain't afraid of tellin' me
If you can't say nothin' good, don't say nothin' at all

On and On...he goes
Now look who's playin' the fool
Criticizing, telling lies, putting down
ain't you got nothin' better to do?
If you can't say nothin' good, don't say nothin' at all

Chorus:
'Cause I know that there are times in life
When we just can't keep it to ourselves
but to want is not to make it right
We've got to tame our tongue
If you can't say nothin' good, don't say nothin' at all

On and on...we go
playin the game that never ends
I think it's time that we all realize
a broken heart is hard to mend
If you can't say nothin' good don't say nothin' at all

James 3:5-10

(Repeat Chorus)

Im thinking you probably should have sent me a PM initially if you really had a beef, but since you didnt, I didnt respond to you that way.

oh third day, are they touring with Stryper?

hahahaha

its ok man, I was trying to impress upon the guy, that if you dont know how to measure or even what it is, it will be nearly IMPOSSIBLE to contract a local machine shop to do the work. [correctly]

the perceived cost saved in doing so, would likely not be realized, when some shops do it turn key for pretty cheap.

You might want to consider buying the ProTec half girdle kit while you are at it. If you are going to spend money on a weak stock cast head to bump the compression you will increase the risk of the cyl cracking. http://www.pro-tecperformance.com/cylinderheads.htm Scroll down to find the girdle kits.

and if you are considering spending $60 to mill the stock head, and then $100 on the protec girdle kit, a USED ADA girdled head becomes pretty attractive.

or even at around $300 new, an ADA girdled head is a bargain, you can swap domes for 701 or 760 for different compression ratios.

its a good investment, it will work with whatever engine package you have, almost for ever.
