MN Freeride 2016 Rickter XFR

I figured I would document my build here for others entertainment and getting any help I need along the way. Maybe others can learn from a few things I pick up along the way and ensure you realize all the parts you'll need and details of a build. At first I was planning on ripping apart my 06 Superjet, but ended up going off the deep end and buying new stuff so the Superjet stays unaltered.

Taylor from TC Freeride really set me up well and delivered.

Erik and Todd at TPE will be supplying the motor and goodies, but probably a 4 week wait. This will be my limiting component.

Jetmaniac hooked me up with tons of equipment, and lightning fast. It's really astonishing how fast the first box arrived.

Picked up the hull today and took a few pictures. I'll be posting a bunch of pictures, watch out.

20160506_182518745_iOS.jpg 20160506_182523614_iOS.jpg I wonder if I can fit it on the bathroom scale to measure it.

The parts are rolling in. Just got the pump from JetManiac. Skat Trak setback 155 mag with a 9/16 cutback impeller. It's a thing of beauty.

I was also able to register it in MN today. About $50 to register with the DNR for 3 years. No title, no tax necessary since it's a home build and they assigned me a HIN. Time to get some HIN plates made and find a place to attach one.

dang, the bloomington DMV made me pay tax on my trixstar when i registered it this winter. Where did you go that they assigned you a HIN right away? I got mine a few weeks later in the mail from the DNR. I got some HIN tags from wetdreams that look good and shipped out super fast.

Lakeville DMV. They called some guy and he did it over the phone, was almost too easy. I walked out with my registration sticker and HIN number. I even renewed my drivers licence and transferred another pwc registration all in about 15 minutes.

If they would have tried to charge me tax on it, I think I would have not gone through with it and gone to another DMV.

Started getting everything ready for my pump installation and noticed a few things. The RRP pump shoe is not drilled/tapped for bolts. I think I should probably tap it before installation in case I screw it up so it doesn't have to be cut out of the hull.

6mmx1.00 is the bolt size and thread.

This is the medium ride plate, and its beautiful. Bolts were included with the hull, amazing!

Next is to drill and tap the pump shoe, grind the hull and glue it in using 3M 5200. I'll ensure the pump shaft is aligned to center and get a straight alignment to the hull.

Weight?

I made some progress today, along with discovering that I was a few parts short.

Details included for ones who want to learn as I would have loved to have seen some of this beforehand.

My steering cable needs an extension and an 08+ steering Joint Ball Stud. I bought some of the 96+ parts for that, which were the wrong ones.

Also, I have a problem. The cooling outlet out of the pump is in the way of the steering cable. Do I need to rotate that part of the pump 180 degrees and move it to the other side?

I got my pump shoe fitted and ready to glue. Tapped the two holes for attaching the intake grate. I had to do quite a bit of grinding on the pump shoe and hull to get it to mate properly. Not a ton, but a little here, a little there. Also, the pump shoe required to be trimmed so the ride plate would fit, I didn't see that one coming but no big deal. The intake grate was also needing some adjustments to get it to fit squarely.

5mm drill bit, 6M1.00mm thread tapper. I used a bit of WD40 as a lubricant and went slow. I was concerned about how deep to make the hole since there isn't a lot of material to work with. I got it deep enough and threaded enough, and am using a lock washer on the bolt, but it's solid. Very happy with the result.

Steering: Found out you only need parts 9,8,7,10. #5 is built in the hull. Instead of using #2, you'll need a 08+ Superjet Joint ball stud, washer and nut along with a cable extension.

It's coming together nicely and I'll be glad when the pump section is complete.

What do you guys use for hoses to connect the pump to the cooling line bulkhead fittings? Looks like 3/4"ID. OEM?

Got the trim figured out and installed.

I got some good advice to rotate the pump stator 180 degrees and that solved the issue of the steering cable running into a cooling outlet.

2016-05-15 15.56.56.jpg

The cooling hose I'm using in the pump area is 1/2" ID Rubber coolant hose.

Just need to glue it up, get it aligned and the bottom of the ski should be about done.

Awesome, I was wondering what that other nut was for. There are no instructions with this thing and I'm going off crappy pictures I can find. Thanks

Yeah same here, I'll take a few pictures if you want when I get my ski out of the crate next week.

Hook up the trim lever and make sure the pull is correct before you finish the pump install. It's a pain to adjust the cable end after its all together

Great looking build! I also just installed my RRP trim, took me a little while to figure it out. Some directions would have been great but I managed to figure it out by looking at pictures like you. Mine came with two different length cable holders. I'm assuming that one is for a 155 and one for a 144? I ended up using the shorter of the two with my 144 setup.

Also ran into a problem with the round jam nut on the lever hitting the start/stop switch unless I rotated the switch on an awkward angle. I ended up cutting a slit into a stainless 8mm nut and used that instead of the round jam nut supplied with the lever. I will say the pull on this trim setup is very easy. Way easier than even the thrust EZ pull setup.

Good to see it coming along, I'm at about the same point, it'll feel great to get out the lock tite and tq wrench and not have to keep flipping the hull over. The trim looks great, is that a adjustable stop to set the angle when the lever isn't pulled?
