I grease both sides of the FW gasket and behind the stator wire grommet. You can also use silicone. 2nd, put a Silicone beed on starter nose, so when starter is reinstalled it acts like secondary seal to your starter nose seals.

You can take apart the bendix pretty easy and clean it up with some wd and a wirebrush. There is a thread on here somewhere.

When mine did that it wasn't a leak but humidity that caused a little moisture inside. Where I live the humidity is very high in the summer.

Yamabond or something similar can't hurt when sealing the flywheel cover.
Although the starters are "O-ring sealed", I've always used 5200 as an extra between metal surfaces. This means pulling the motor to do it properly, but it's worked for me so far.
