msd support from manufacturer

Although I probably already know the response ill ask anyway. Being that the total loss systems have been abandoned has anyone had any luck with getting support from msd on replacement parts or diagnostics? I pulled a system from a buddies ski that i know 100% was working and sold it to a member here. He received it and was not able to get it to work. To add insult to injury this was a overseas sale so not only will i have to eat an enormous amount of shipping costs, it also delays him from getting on the water.

how fragile are these systems in the event the some wires got crossed up on install? enough to kill the brain? part number 00-00-2530

Iam the buyer of this system, chris been awesome and a standup guy, he refunded and took half of the shipping cost awsome dude.

But the main thing is, i know for sure that nothing been wrong wired, Beacause it worked with my other brain but this gives no spark at all at any channel, the trigger inputs work.

Chris took it from a working ski and had it sit for dont know how long and now when I wired it, it doesnt spark, not with jumped trigger or etc like the msd manual says.

You know it would be nice if someone knew enough to reverse engineer these things but alas it probably isn't worth the effort, as for MFG help all that went out the window when Holley bought out MSD some years ago. I have MSD 4270 setups that still work just fine , it seems to really be hit or miss on MSD setups.

Thought about the reverse engineering thing also. I'll waste some time confirming the brain is dead and then probably see about opening it up and taking a look at what's inside

To me it would make a lot of sense if someone came up with a plug and play brain for these MSD setups, there is no telling how many of them are out there. I was hoping that was going to be the case with the Zeeltronics setups but those don't work with MSD pickups.

The thing is with zeel or msd its old tech, the firing accuracy of 2 point pickups i pretty bad for these days

Old tech is not always bad tech, points worked just fine for many years before CDI came out, sometimes making things so complex that no one can work on them is not the answer.
I purposely converted my ultralight rotax engine from Ducati cdi ignition to bosch points ignition because how much hotter the spark is. And Imo is more reliable and redundant. Old tech for the win

MSD = my spark disappeared. They can be fragile. I was told connecting +/- in the wrong order could fry the old ones.
THIS IS THE BEST ! ! ! I almost spit my coffee out my f-in nose !
M.S.D. = MY SPARK DISAPPEARED .... Hey Sturat , I love your sense of humor.
Since, I'm a " story teller " ... and yes have been called many other things too ! , I may as well add what my investigation revealed , when the MSD went bad last summer in my Trinity . ( aka Jetskicrazy's old Trinity )
Last summer my son was beating on my speedmachine, jumping some boat wakes while his GF was cruising on my B1 11-hundo. I want to add we are not accusing my #1 of breaking my shat, I had jumped a couple wakes, with the ski myself. Anyway's that was all it took ! a 2 foot high wake and a small amount of air time , the "My Spark Disappeared" ignition took a dump and that was all she wrote ! I didn't realize at the time that the unit's dont like being " shocked " . I called Holley, and just so happened to get the MSD Tech Support guy who was the " Program Manager " for these 2 cycle ignitions way back in the 90's when they launched the program. He admitted in not so many word's that the potted units can't take a violent vibration, intense shock from some of the extreme conditions that user's will put the products through. It was just bad luck for ME, That ski primarily is my cruiser, it's a bouy ski ( which is extreme use ) and it was just our dumb luck that my son gave the UNIT it's final blow.
Tech support was pretty good IMO, I ended up bullpoopting with this guy for quite a while , talking about old school shat ! MSD never continued to support the program because the consumer market simply wasn't large enough to warrant the program. Manu costs - VS - Demand just wasn't there. I'm assuming all support dropped as soon as Holley bought the business. Regardless , MSD was getting out of the 2 cycle racing ignitions anyway's , or so I was led to believe.
I wish I could find some electrical guru to reverse engineer or help me trouble shoot this old " Box " I have , heck it's not that old, the ski is a 2018 and it looked like jetskicrazy bought this ignition brand new & built it from scratch. Heck Now I have a bunch of coils, a Nice $600 aluminum flywheel , soleniod, cables & boots ... just sitting in a cabinet.
Since my investigation as to what to replace the MSD with in my 1100 Kawi , resulted in a going back to OEM and running a little advanced ! I asked some prominent motor builders in the BIZ and both of them didn't have much luck with other systems. They both recommended going back to OEM also. At least in my situation. There are some nice ignitions out there like Haltronics & Microsquirt but they are Pricey ! Plus neither of the builders I chatted with " off the record " had any luck with getting the Zeeltronics to run like they wanted.

My .02

My first zeel was a pain. But it's because I was treating it like a standard oem ignition. While zeel is advertised as plug and play. I feel that is setup dependent and that each person should verify exact timing before attempting to tune. I will probably go zeel on my 1100 next season. I expect a significant increase in power.

Msd sells thousands of products all over the world. Like most things in life. Your only gonna hear about the 100 bad things. Not the 1000000000 good things. Grains of salt. Or for me, msg
