Custom/Hybrid My 760 SX (A 300 SX transformed from a SJ)

Here is my official build thread! I was without a garage for a long time and now I finally have one so the build is on!

Just in the last few days I've made quite a bit of progress thanx to my recent grinder purchase :)

I dont want to give away all the details just yet.... but as you can see from the pics to follow, I chopped up an old SN SJ to use the pump section. It will sport as many Yamaha pieces as possible.

Here she goes.....

Here is the first "real" day of work - cutting up the SJ!

I flipped the ski and marked a rough outline where it would be cut. The next day I bought a grinder and some cut off wheels and went to town.

The 300 hull is very flimsy! It will need a lot of reinforcing. I ended up cutting the SJ hull so that I can retain the SJ fire wall for the bearing housing. This way I know everything is where it should be and will line up with the drive shaft and pump.

Then i turned the grinder to the 300 hull... I widened the already wide tray and I will be putting in foot holds. I plan on putting the pole bracket as far forward as possible to the area for the old oil tank had to go. This will hopefully make enough room for the waterbox too.

Then it was on to the pump section. Once everything was cut, I defoamed the area and removed all the water lines and exhaust. Drilling out the foam makes it SOOOOO much easier to work with.

I have it now in a rough mock up. I will final cut and fit hopefully this weekend. Time to get some more resin and get her glassed.

The last pic shows all that is left of the SJ :(

Thanx -

I've been waiting 4 months to get it going. Now I can't wait to finish it! I have to figure out what color to paint it.

Suggestions? One possibility was all silver with a big blue star on the side.... How 'bout them Cowboys!

I am doing a similar project you might want to cut the front section by the oil tank higher above the old gas filler hole. this will allow the pole to lay flat not on that corner.. what pole are you running?

I just did a rough cut up front. I will do all the final cutting after I get the pump area glassed in. I am planning on using a stock RN mount with a custom handle pole that I will make myself. There is a scrap metal place not too far from me and I can get round tubes of aluminum cheap. I'm gonna fab it up, make all the cuts and then have it welded at a muffler shop. Should be able to et it done for less than $100 total.

Ya the RN pole works nice. I've seen a couple 300's with them. I just want to try making my own pole and see how it turns out.

As for the front - I think I'm doing enough cutting and glassing for now so I'm going to leave the front alone. I kinda like the look it has and I'll be able to turf around the bumpers.

Got side tracked this weekend finishing another ski. Now I have to find some resin and start glassing everything in. All the parts are laid out so it should go together in a reasonable amount of time. The only thing I have to fab is a handle pole.

Make sure you take plenty of pics of the handle pole I'm planing on copying you. I just need to learn a little more on why and where i want to mount it before I start cutting my ski

Spent a few hours in the garage today de-foaming... (yuck) and mocking stuff up. I think I am going to set the pump back 2-3 inches. In the pics you can see an apx position from where the motor would be if I didn't set it back and then where it will be when I do.

Also... toying around with the idea of using the stock handlepole. It fits in the superjet bracket. I have a 550SX steering cable in there now and it looks to be a good length.

good old p'cola
if you change the post in the oem bracket you can use a 650sx quick steer set up and any bars you want.. fyi use a 650 post from a 650 mounting plate. they do come out

If you use the stock handle pole and mount it in all the way forward are you gonna lengthen the pole? I just shortend my handle pole 2.5 inches and now I feel way to bent over and uncomfortable on the ski. I don't think I would be able to ride it if it was any shorter.
