As for the build, I got my other box of parts open from chris and got some stuff set out. Didn't do much of anything worth taking pics of. But I didn't get the motor mounts snugged down but will tighten them down tomorrow.

you have some work to do...
haha I told ya man I needed just about EVERYTHING to get this thing built! It's gonna be a lot of work but it will be worth it in the end.

Waternut,
yeah I thought the same thing when I first saw the hull! It cleaned up very well with a brush and some degreaser. But yeah as soon as I get it built me and a couple buddies of mine that have accounts on here will get together with you and do some riding! Now I just gotta sell my 550&650 to fund the rest of this and I will be set!

Well, finally got some time to do more work on her! Got my driveshaft and motor mounts in, bolted up the manifold for my protec pipe, and snugged the motor down(not real tight). I did however, see that the ebox I have doesn't look like it will bolt up to my hull. What do you guys think?(pics below)

here is where the ebox looks like it would bolt up from the tray.

here is the mounting bracket for my current ebox. If it fits let me know! Otherwise I need to find a new ebox..

The brackets bolt on the inside. I see them in the picture already bolted to the ebox. See the pic below.

Also, make sure you line up the motor with the midshaft or you will eat up the splines on the drive shaft. Shim the motor without the rubber coupler in it first. Then make sure the couplers are level.

Take the big silver bracket off the ebox. The SN only uses the two small metal mounts to mount it.

The big metal bracket is off a couch or something.

I got the idea about the ebox. Keep forgetting this motor came out of an fx1 from what I was told. But as far as the motor goes, I don't have it tightened down or anything just yet. Just kinda snugged it so it don't move since my dad likes to bump into everything in the garage haha.

Hey,

No, the chamber fits right ... you need a Lord Mount, which is a piece of rubber with the threaded part of a bolt sticking out of each end. You see how the hole on the pipe mount is above the hole on the head? The rubber lord mount lets you connect the two, while keeping your pipe from vibrating off at the coupler.

I used to have one of those old pro-tec pipes, and don't remember if the lord mount went right into the head, or if there was some kind of a mount for the lord mount itself ...

Someone else chime in?

I have that pipe in my blaster and i just cut the whole mount off. The chamber is only held in by the two clamps on either end. Same way as a factory pipe.

Works great for me and iv'e sent that blaster to the moon many times in big surf. Watch now that I said that it will fall off on me.

you may want to consider purchasing an aftermarket girdled head

those protec pipes put alot of pressure on the head and cylinders

a buddy of mine ran one without a girdled head and in the surf he cracked hs cylinders

just a thought

buy a ada girdled head for like $250-300, problem solved plus you will get some extra brap throw in

How so??? I ran it all last season on a bone stock 650 motor and never had a problem. How would I know if there is too much pressure?? Compression was 155 in each hole at the beginning and end of the season.

Yeah I've thought about just running it as is since I wll rarely ride surf. And I was wiggling it last night And it seems pretty sturdy just being held out with the coupler. So I was thinkin that once I get the waterbox side held down it won't move. Good idea?

wasnt to do with the compression of the motor, it was to do with the moment load of the pipe on the head, twisting, they are pretty big pipes

he had a bad landing and it cracked the cylinder

hey maybe it was a one off, but if it was my motor id be running a girdled head with that pipe... i like protec pipes

lord mounts are cheap and can be picked up on line. I would get one. Or better yet, send me that pipe and I will send you my caufmans pipe that requires no lord mounts LOL.

Next to a B-pipe that protec is the shiz for a 650 or stocker 701. it is light and durable and dependable. Never saw this type pipe break a cylender but I have seen the cast chambered pipes break em.

Haha yeah you wish! Ha. But wth that in mind I think I'm just gnna run it as is for a bit. Most pipes don't even mount to the head at all and I haven't heard any problems out of them so I would think that with this pipe's mount BEng so far away it shouldn't hurt it.
